Assuming the NHL gets their way gone are the days of those contracts of 10 years or more. If that happens what will Pittsburgh do with Evgeni Malkin? His contract is set to exipre at the end of the 2013-2014 season and after seeing Sidney Crosby sign a 12 year contract extension this past summer, chances are he won't get as long a term. So knowing that do you think he still stays with the Penguins or do they trade him 1 year before he is set to become a UFA like they did with Jordan Staal?
In trade? I won't put names down because I don't see how any team can really afford to sell enough to pry Malkin from Pittsburg.
So 1st line RW capable of 30 goals, 2nd line center capable of 60 points, top 4 Dman capable of 20 minutes a night and Top Prospect ready to break into NHL.
Going by this from my own fav team, Kesler, Burrows, Edler and Kassian.
After considering cap, Pits would have to send some salary and lesser replacement players back.
I would rather trade Crosby as simple as that.
Let's make it clear, if I had Malkin Crosby and Ovi on the same team I would trade Crosby and Ovi together before I would trade Malkin alone

I was wondering if a deal could be made around Malkin and Stamkos. Tampa could use a more all around player, like Malkin, where as a Stamkos/Crosby combo would be deadly.
That being said, neither team does this. It could make sense though.

Malkin will get a blank check again and get to choose his own terms. There's no line in the sand where he isn't worth it to the Penguins.

You would rather keep a 120 pt forward than a guy whos only played 40 games in the last 2 years and is a wild card when it comes to career ending injuries?!?!!? You should be burned at the stake

Pittsburgh keeps him unless he comes out and tells them that he won't re-sign. Most likely he will sign a long term deal.
