7% guys. SEVEN. PERCENT.

A guy making 2 mil a season, would instead make 1.86 mil.

That 140k is worth all of this I guess.
Your math is off.

The players giving up 7% of the pie is about a 12.3% decrease.
Your $2 mil player would make 1.75 mil

They should cancel the 2013/14 season preemptively!

We fans made mistakes by being too loyal after the last two lockouts.

The best way to discourage another lockout in 6-7 years is for the teams to return to empty arenas.

This is what I love about this part of the boards. We can point out mistakes without being dicks

Like Buddy, I have given up on this season.
Wake me up when they finally agree on a CBA in 2018

Yeah, the Classic being canceled kills my last hope for a season. I still don't get why the players wouldn't take the 50-50.

Don't be mistaken, its always about money. Players go to 50-50 tomorrow or owners stay at 57% we have a CBA tomorrow.

This "make whole" thing is a potentially pretty big step.

Don't forget the Nhl is still wanting the UFA age to raisee, some loss of arbitration tights, and changes in the ELCs.
There are still other hurdles

Oh I know, this is a long way from over. But at least it might get them back in the same room.

It's not that simple. I don't understand why everyone keeps thinking like this.

It could be that simple if either side actually wanted to negotiate. Instead we have two ego maniacs blowing smoke up everyone's collective ***** and pointing fingers blaming the other side.

I wonder if the Kings are going to offer Dean Lombardi diehards again when they eventually start playing again? I'll have to resist any urge to spend money on the NHL for a while. It is really annoying that this whole debacle has even been divisive for fans of the same teams. They can all go **** themselves. Every single player, owner and person causing this debacle. Hallelujah, holy ****..where's the Tylenol?

Money is what started it, but human beings are emotional. Pride, egos, spite ect. are all factors.

Sometimes people are willing to damage themselves just to damage an adversary.

I would think they would. That was an idea that I told to Dave Taylor during the last lockout as a way to get fans back. It was during a two day meeting in which they asked a bunch of fans questions about the web page and how to get fans back. Two ideas that I suggested, which they did, were 10.00 seats and a free preseason game. I also suggested that 1/2 hour before the game unsold seats could be sold to walk up people for half price but they didn't use that one.

while that may be true of an individual or even a small group, I don't think the Union or the owners as a whole would do that. Part of Fehr's job is to make sure the players don't let personal grudges prevent them from getting the best deal.

I've already heard a few players say that it's about the principle of it.

If humans were perfectly logical than they wouldn't be willing to lose $1M this season just to save $70K (or whatever small amount) next season.

The principle of having money "taken" again...

and the next time the CBA expires. The precedent right now is each time the CBA expires the players have to give up some money. That's why I can see the owners argument for locking the players out and why I can see why the players would be dumb to sign the offer. Each time you come to the table you cannot give up money. I wonder how much money the owners currently have from people who paid for season tickets? If you're serious about taking a stance pull that money back now. If every fan got together and did it on the same day it would be interesting to see if it made any sort of impact.

And if the NHL accepts what ever the players want, precedent is set that you can only get what you want once?? How many times has the NHL cut back the years to UFA status? How about RFA rights? The only thing the players can "give up" is money. Everything else always comes from management in the way of contract rights. This whole precedent arguement makes no sense...because then the NHL would be giving up nothing this time....

If you and your wife didn't have sex last nite, and she says no tonite, does that mean your not going to get any tomorrow? And that you should keep her up tonite until you do?

As I said many times last night, the offer reported on Make Whole was made verbally on Tues...B.Daly to S.Fehr. Part of lengthy discussion. Formal or otherwise, the fact the owners are willing to cover the costs of Make Whole is in play. I'm surprised D.Fehr isn't more pleased. For the record, it was a player related source who provided the tip and the NHL reluctantly confirmed the story just before 6pm Fri. I'm certain of this, based on number of texts received from players. They want a deal and want their leadership to focus on getting it done. Not to say the players are caving...they're not, but they want focus to remain on negotiations and away from petty memos to media. Rather than criticize language of reports, PA leadership would be better served working on ways to make a deal for its players.
Finally, the players are beginning to see what D. Fehr is all about...ego. Get this POS to the table and let's get this thing done.

Jamal Mayers and Mike Rupp don't see it.
