San Jose - Vancouver trade

To San Jose: Cory Schneider
To Vancouver: Ryane Clowe, Taylor Doherty, San Jose's 2013 second round pick.

San Jose then offers Antti Niemi for trade (Leafs, Oiler, Columbus, etc)
Vancouver sticks with Luongo & Lack in goal as originally planned

No way, Schneider worth a lot more than that!

If they want Schneider, SJ will need to overpay.

I don't really see the reason for SJ to trade for Schneider. There's no way they'd put all their stock in him immediately because he's an unknown as far as they're concerned. They'd have to run with 2 goalies (not a terrible idea) and then decide who to go with after a year.

This isn't bad for value, I'm just not sure why Schneider isn't just traded to a team that wants him.

So we trade our starting, perhaps franchise goalie for a guy who is a free agent after this year and a prospect who is borderline on even making the NHL as a 6th Dman?

Like 90% of the threads here pure fantasy and no reality.

San Jose fans will say they don't need another goalie, and they're right, but they absolutely rob the Canucks in this trade IMO. Perhaps I'm underestimating Doherty, but a pending UFA Clowe and a 2nd are no where near enough unless Doherty is a blue chip prospect.

Would do this trade in a heartbeat. No takebacks!! It is nice to see a trade proposal in the Sharks' favour and it wasn't even by a Sharks fan. Would this cost the team much needed depth to stock up a position they don't really need? Yeah, but Schneider would be worth the hassle.

Schneider isn't getting traded, hence the million page Luongo thread.

Vancouver doesn't do it value-wise.

San Jose doesn't do it because we lose one of the few top6 wingers that we have and we have too many goalies already. We have one of the deepest goalie prospects in the league.

It makes no sense to trade for a goalie and then shop around our pre-existing one (Niemi). It greatly diminishes his value. It would make more sense if Vancouver just shops around Schneider to one of those teams you mentioned for whatever you guys need.

And I still don't think San Jose would keep us on the line. Schneider is still the main component of our return, and in the Clowe trade the OP had, they easily win valuewise. Here...there's less incentive to do this.

What about something around Schneider for Pavelski?

Schneider is worth a hell of a lot more than a decent 2nd line winger, a decent defensive prospect and a 2nd round pick.

Was going to say this. Your 2nd line needs a playmaking RW. And iirc Kesler is injured so step in for him on C until he is back. And then Leafs could get Niemi.

I'd do the OP in a heartbeat. I know it'd hurt our already non-existant forward depth, but we could definitely flip Niemi for a capable 2nd line forward.

But neither of these. Couture and Pavelski don't go anywhere, unless it's for a better young forward.

No. The only way Schneider is getting traded to SJ is if Couture or Pavelski+ is coming back

Why?

Thornton, Couture, Pavelski, Marleau, Clowe, Havlat. 6 legit top-6 forwards.

Boyle, Burns, Vlasic, Stuart. 4 legit top-4 defensemen.

Niemi. 1 mediocre goaltender.

Pavelski for Schneider and flipping Niemi for say, Stalberg, would imo make the Sharks a better team overall.

Pavelski is so much better than Stalberg. Pavelski is our Kesler, our Backes, our Bergeron. AKA not going to be traded. Would you rather have Kesler and an average goalie, or Stalberg and a good goalie?

This isn't NHL 13, you can just flip a player like that. -______-

You say that as though they asked for him. OP is one of us. There is plenty Id accept from San Jose if they wanted Schneider aside from the untouchable two.

Kesler > Pavelski, but if we had the forward depth to do it, and a Niemi in net, I would definitely consider trading him for elite goaltending if it were made available.

We're not giving you Burns either.

Well then we value goaltending differently. Also, the Sharks have no forward depth, so there's your answer.

no team that already has a goalie will overpay for a slight upgrade.

How do the Sharks not have forward depth? They were 13th in goals for last year which is still in the top half of the league. This is with Havlat missing half the season
