The Phantoms cannot defend for their lives... the keepers are not helping though.

In good news Schenn and Couts have looked great, also Couts has been mixing it up quite a bit, showing great leadership in almost every stoppage as well.

All time penalty minutes leaders in Philadelphia Phantoms history (answer: Pete Vandermeer).

Someone won a Manning signed puck and they were giving away a Harry Z signed puck in the 3rd.

Suellentrop had an assist, but otherwise wasn't that impressive.

Why is Akeson is in the ECHL? He was the 2nd leading scorer on the AHL team last year.

He doesnt/isn't very good on the defensive side of the game.

Not like with the current phantoms though it makes much of a difference.

Ya its all good till Couturier takes one off the chin and is out for months then what? It's ok to mix it up but he's not Rinaldo remember that right .

So far this year... seemingly not, so many goals have been against them from sloppy outlet passes or D-men trying to dangle round someone when they should just whack it round the boards.

Danny Briere and Zherdev could be a better D partnership than the bottom phantoms pairing... at least their dangles have half a chance of getting past the forecheckers... while skating diagonally in front of their own goal.

Unless the players just are not listening, or are not used to the system yet, the D positioning, decisions and movement has sucked.

They actually look ok going forward, but get far fewer opportunities than they should do due to getting no service due to the outlet passes.

Not mixing it up like Lindros used to... or Richards, but more a marshalling of entangled players, making sure people stay calm and stick to the game in hand... just giving the occasional shove when needed. Just meaning he looks confident out there.

Shorthanded goal for Couturier at 6:18. Phantoms have scored the first goal for the first time this season.

So I was just looking at the Phantoms schedule thinking that maybe I could catch a game when they play in Hamilton or Toronto if the lockout persists.

Not only do the Phantoms not play in Hamilton or Toronto, they don't even play either team. And upon further inspection, 12 of the 76 regular season games are against the Albany Devils.

I understand travel isn't the same as in the NHL, but really, 12 of 76 games against the same team.

Who though that was a good idea?

I would think Gus and Syvret would be able to handle outlet passing, but I missed a lot of last season so I didn't see Gus play much. How have they looked?

edit- Per the box score, the Phantoms beat Albany 4-0, with goals by Gustafsson, Couturier, Harper, and Holmstrom. 2 assists for Schenn, 2 for Couturier, 1 for Ford, and one for a defenseman I didn't know was on the team, Jeff Dimmen.

I haven't seen a single second of the Phantoms. How has Couturier looked offensively? I've been hoping this AHL time during the lockout is doing him wonders for developing his O game at the next level.

Gus has looked ok in my opinion, one of the few D men who has on a consistent basis, but he has still made some awful plays a few times. Of the 5 games I have seen, in the first few Syvret looked great going forward, but in the 2 before this one he looked pretty bad at times.

Manning has looked good at times but like he is trying to do too much at others.

Lauridsen has looked ok, he is enormous, but sometimes caught flat footed.

Eddy and Dimmen have looked pretty awful most of the time!

Bourdon has been extremely disappointing, just has not looked himself in the games I saw, getting beaten very easily at times.

In the 5 games I have seen at least 2 periods of, he has looked pretty damn good, he should have had more points but a few times teamates did not finish on easy chances, he has definitely looked the kind of playmaker who was the top assists per game in the junior leagues, and most PPG of draft eligible players 2 years ago, add to that his shot percentage is around 7, compared to his 11.2 last season, and I expect his goals to increase to match such a percentage as the year progresses.

You really notice him every time he is on the ice, and I mean really, the play works around him so often, and he has the puck maybe 35-40% of the time his line is out on the ice.

Also his faceoffs, I do not know the percentage, but it is seemingly above 50%, which considering he was 55% in the Q, but 47% last year (centres usually get about 7% better through first 4 years on average after entering NHL) is very promising.

Only disparaging point about him is he has been trying to hold onto the puck sometimes when easier options are available, but that has been the whole team tbh, and I don't blame him considering how much him and Schenn have carried the team.

Out of 57 points by the Phantoms player, the 'big two' have 21, 37% of all points scored.

Plus, out of 23 goals, I believe those two have been involved in 15 of them! Accounting for 65% of goals having those two involved... and on the ice in another 3-4 (that may be incorrect, I only briefly looked through the boxscores).

Therefore, of the 23 goals, about 18-19 have had one of those two on the ice.

Also:

Schenn: 11 points in 9
Couts: 10 points in 9

Compared to forwards in 'their league.' (ie first rounders or hyped young players)

Granlund: 12 in 8
Eberle: 11 in 9
RNH: 10 in 8
Hodgson: 10 in 9
Niederreiter: 8 in 7
Baertschi: 11 in 9
Johansen: 7 in 8
Henrique: 2 in 8
Kreider: 4 in 7
Girgensons: 4 in 10
Kadri: 3 in 8
Zibanejad: 3 in 9
Burmistrov: 6 in 10

As you can see, they are both doing very well comparatively, especially considering they are pretty much the Phantoms entire offence!
