The current situation for the Wings is 14 forwards on one-way deals, with Eaves and Emmerton likely going to IR. Nyquist, Brunner, and Tatar are all likely to be considered for/make the final roster. So Calgary would have to take at least one forward back.
Realistically, Detroit is looking to get rid of forwards, not add them; the Wings have ten forwards signed to one-way deals through at least 2013-14, plus Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco, Sheahan, Jarnkrok, Pulkinnen, Andersson. Brunner is on a one-year, two-way deal but may come back.
I'm more concerned with keeping Filppula than trading for Backlund.
His value isn't super high so we're better off keeping him. He's tearing it up in Allsvensken right. Not that second tier Swedish league play is indicative of NHL talent but he's ahead of some pretty notable players there.
We probably couldn't get much more than a second/equivalent prospect, and if that's what we're getting it's not really worth it.
I would want filpulla coming back in a deal for J-Bo.
Most Wings fans would probably do that considering Filppula is a UFA after the season. Problem is I suspect that very reason he'll be valued as more a throw-in type guy to Flames fans rather than a centerpiece of a deal which makes any consensus on a Filppula-Bouwmeester centered deal fairly unlikely. Wings fans value them as basically even I'd say, Flames will want a + or even ++ for that.
Backlund wouldn't be an improvement on anything we have and we already have too many forwards. Adding him for nothing would hurt us by taking away ice time from our young guys. At this point I wouldn't give up anything we have for him.
