As long as the CFL team aren't beavers. Beavers? BEAVERS??

Our last team was called the Renegades because we were given a choice -- Renegades or Beavers. So we ended up with Renegades because next to Beavers, Renegades was a fantastic name.

Do we want beavers playing CFL football.
Only in another city, thank you very much.

No Beavers!
No NO NO
I would love them to be called the beavers. Its a very fitting name. Still think shiners would be great though. Its a nod to a very important part of Ottawa history, and is related to both the lumber trade and the canal. Also sounds like a "classic" name.

We need to link the past and the future. The lumber trade is gone and so are most of the beavers; however, the brothels are coming back. The Ottawa Mustangs. The wild ****** of Ottawa

Other possible names:

Ottawa Red Light
Bytowne Byotches

I actually have an old Renegades hat with a beaver on it. If I recall, they also had Renegade t-shirts with "Beaver Fever" on them and that beaver logo. Pretty sure that I had the t-shirt but cannot find it.

Remember that episode of Corner Gas where the mayor's mom suggests that the city build a statue of the world's biggest hoe, and nobody has the heart to tell her the other meaning of that particular word?

That's how I feel when trying to explain to people why 'Beavers' is such an awful name.

I can't either, myself.

Then again, one of the radio stations in town(106.9 the Bear)started a campaign on their Facebook page to get the new team called the Bears. Good idea-and the logo isn't that shabby...

BUT.....('cause you knew there would be one... )

there's a soccer team that uses the name...plus it has some....ahem...unsavory connotations, which I won't mention here because I don't want to get into trouble.

Team 1200 is having a voting contest this morning for team nicknames.

Doesn't look like they included Highlanders in the top 16

Soon enough, Ottawa’s CFL team will have a name and a logo and it’s likely to be big on the cool and hip factor.
Quote:
We’ve got to come up with a name that’s going to connect with the so-called ‘lost generation’ of people we keep talking about in Ottawa — that 20-35-year-old range. It has to be a name that resonates with them, connects with them,” OSEG’s Jeff Hunt said Tuesday.
Oh yay, 50-year-olds trying to decide what 20-year-olds think is "hip".

Say hello to your Ottawa Poochies.

Kinda, I would vote for it just because it was yours from here no matter what it was against and just to be completely honest I really like the name a) based on the history b) because I'd support fellow hfer's just because, however just in my own personal opinion highlanders is not a name that blew me away. I don't know if there even could be one that would, and to be completely fair to me it's not hand and fist better than others.

Thanks, although I hope most didn't see it that way. I look to here for support because we're all a bunch of passionate hockey fans and most of us have interests in Ottawa. Part of the reason why the Heritage project has been so successful is because we got genuine feedback. I do appreciate the support though

We're going to need a mascot too. Get on the phone with marvel. this is how it's done now.

We'd pretty much already have one with the 'highlanders' and he would kick that marvel nerd's ass.

By jumping out a head of it you basically are getting your idea off the ground before people can chose for themselves. If it wasn't for your idea I doubt anyone would have thought of highlanders.

You're a great marketer.

Do you won the rights to that logo and name?

Well not the name, the logo is mine for sure As for marketing, didn't do much this time around, it gained some steam on social media and then CBC called for tv and radio interviews.

It's down to 8 now...

Generals: Jason York "OH YA WE KIN GIT GENERAL GRANT YUK YUK!!"
Voyageurs: Yeah they're so bad, let's bus 'em out of town!
Loggers: Acutally not bad...but how long before there's an Interwebz send-off called the "Bloggers", or a country hoe-down called the "Cloggers"?
Rivermen: Decent if bland
Bootleggers: Wouldn't be bad in the capital RE Government types, oh that's BootLICKERS...
Raiders: This is Steve Warne's baby.
All Reds: I guess a take on New Zealand's All Blacks? They also spin to the ALL IN ALL RED Senators take.
Outlaws: Not sure how tying us in to a drug-dealing biker gang will help, unless they want extra help with road security (Echoes of Altamont...yes I know those were Hell's...)

Just about all 16 names Team 1200 are pushing sounds like generic stand-in names that sitcoms write into their scripts as the names of local sports teams when they don't want to pay the royalties to use the name of an IRL pro sports team.

Good and just saying I do really like it especially with everything together. I was blown away by the story and graphics, and I do really like the name. I would be very happy if we were the Ottawa highlanders tbh.

If I had too pick one left on the Team 1200 list, I would have to go with Outlaws.

Today I'm liking the Ottawa Lumberjacks. (I actually do like the name).
The mascot would be a Lumberjack.
The cheerleaders would be called the "Big Jacks" dance team

If there were a cheerleader competition, would it be a Jack Ooooon second thought that's a great name.
