Teams can cut, suspend, terminate players if they get injured overseas

TSN has this article, about the legal issue of teams being able to suspend, cut, terminate players who get injured overseas.

Career Ending Injury = Cut w/o having to pay.
Injured and able to return = Do not have to pay until returns.

So technically if the islanders wanted to could they terminate DP's contract with his groin injury he's currently dealing with?

Not yet, I'm sure it bound to happen though, his knees are made of glass I think.

i could see a NHL team terminating a contract for a player on a 1 or 2 year deal getting a season ending injury overseas. beyond that I cant see it.

I'm willing to bet a lot.

Wasn't me though. That's too far over the line.

Oh geez, I see what you're talking about. DP played like...2 games? And injured his groin.

I didn't even know he was playing.

I don't understand why people would root for Bryz to be hurt and be saddled with Leighton for another year

That's why people are "wishing" it. Didn't say I was. I think Bryz is a fine goaltender, but not a 5.6m for 8 more years.

We will win a cup with Bryz on the flyers. You can come back to this post when it happens.

I don't want Bryz to be hurt but this contract was the biggest, knee jerk reaction overpayment in both salary, length and NMC I've ever seen. Leighton for 1 year or Bryz for 8, which is worse?

A knee jerk implies there wasn't 20 years of waiting for a #1 goalie, so yeah.

people were saying the same thing when we had each of the following in net:

Brian Boucher
Robert Esche
Marty Biron
John Vanbiesbrouck
Roman Cechmanek
Sean Burke

...and we didn't.

What makes Bryz any different than these guys? He's basically all of those 6 goalies in 1

Rooting for Giroux to get hurt is disgusting.

The only two of those I remember people legitimately saying that about was Beezer and Cechmanek. Biron people thought we had a chance. Boucher people were excited because of his rookie run, and I think that was completely understandable given what he had accomplished that year. Sean Bruke and Robert Esche were not talked about as anything special to my knowledge. What makes Bryz different is that he has shown (not necessarily in Philly or with any consistency) that he CAN play like an elite goalie. I happen to think that if the Flyers don't win a Cup with Bryz in net, the onus will not be squarely on him. Of course I could be wrong about that, and I am not on board with the sentiment that we WILL win a Cup with him, but as usual, I don't think it going to be Bryz's fault if the Flyers don't win a Cup over the next eight years.

i could be wrong but i think bryz has a ring and none of those guys do?. he had a horrible season doesnt mean he cant bounce back. lets not shoot the goalie before the next season starts.
