If the PA is going to break the silence they must be planning on derailing negotiations.

Nice.

Not necessarily. They may just be keeping a "veiled optimism".

If they were going to derail negotiations then why would they announce that before hand?

It's probably just a presser to let the fans know what happened. Although silence would be better.

Don doesn't strike me as being a person who stands before a bunch of reporters and says, "I got nothin'"

The only other possibility is that the players see this meeting as being so important they'll need to address the press one way (Good - meaning a deal has been agreed to) or another (No deal).

The PA in front of the media? There are going to be some dumb comments and angry responses.

I do believe the NHL is willing to move on contract rights. I see them wanting a cap, but not at 5 years. Maybe more in the 7 to 8 year range.

Wasn't that the thing about "make whole" though?

Or do they mean to make the contracts longer than 5 years?

And thus, Andy Strickland was unmasked as the true Captain Obvious.

Knowing the PA, it means they don't take any part of the make whole provision, UFA is at the age of 10, contracts are uncapped, and the salary cap is gone.

But hopefully they settle on capped at 7 years, UFA is at 28, and the owners take all of the make whole provision.

The PA are going to be greedy ******** as usual and give up nothing. I woke up feeling a little less optimistic after reading they will be doing media availability while the NHL isin't. Like why can't they stay on the same page and operate the same way?

It's Donald Fehr. Doing the same as the NHL makes him "look weak". He likes to be different.

Just sounds like we're set up to hear the same BS from Fehr after this meeting is over. The NHL has only conceded and softened their stance on 10 things... they want 15. All the players have been doing is whining and whining about compromise and being fair... well they haven't offered anything.

Ugh I do not have a good feeling anymore about today's meetings. Just like last time when the larger group met. Too many egos in the room and somebody will get angry and stomp their foot down.

I'm pretty scared for today. The PA having media availability almost seems like their way of saying, "we'll blow this up if things don't go our way today." Ugh.

Hey, on the lighter side, if Fehr comes out and does his usual crap all over every ounce of optimism, we can name the next thread "Fehrgettaboutit."

As a fan of this sport, there was ONE thing I wanted out of this crappy situation: term limits. Please limit contracts to 7 yrs max.

Secret location today for the NHL CBA talks. NHLPA should talk to media after. NHL plan not to talk, as of right now.
