US Elections: Incumbent Barack Obama v. Mitt Romney, Et Al

Okay. Today is Election Day in the grand old US of A.

The general rule of thumb is no politics outside of the political forum on HF. But considering today/tomorrow there is going to be a fair amount of political talk, I'd like to mostly relax this rule for our New Jersey-centric crowd base... IN THIS THREAD ONLY.

If you haven't yet seen this thread and post somewhere else, it'll likely be moved into here.

If you post in here AND somewhere else about politics... well, just don't.

How can anyone even think about the US election when there's another meeting today with the NHL owners and players?

most of the polling places in my town were underwater and/or are being used for the recovery effort (like the public works building) so they put all districts in boro hall. i went right at 6am to avoid the lines and voted. it wasn't too crazy yet, but it's going to be a cluster-f if alot of people decide to show up at once

I saw something about Obama being a Communist Muslim Brotherhood Socialist on my FB wall this morning.

If Romney gets in it'd be pretty good for Canada. Increased trade (free trade + oil export), people will move here...everyone on my facebook will get all upset for no reason...but if I were American I'd vote Obama for certain.

Attempting to vote by e-mail. Just sent Hackensack a scan copy of my application to prove I'm me. Waiting to get the ballot.

Also for those who intentionally don't vote:

Cowbell, honestly curious, please keep a running tally of how many posts you have to delete. Let's see if we'll keep it under 20.

Voted at 6:20 this morning. School I went to didn't have power but no one seemed to tell other people that it got moved to the municipal building. So I had to drive back to the school to tell everyone. Granted it was only about 5 blocks, but still, waste of time when I'm trying to get to work.

So who's voting for the whackjob that's part of the NSA Did 911 party? Apparently he's from NJ.

Popped my voting cherry a few minutes ago. Felt like an adult. Then they gave me a lollipop and that died quickly.

There are some interesting predictions about the election. If you look at current state by state polling numbers and model them using historical outcomes, Obama looks like he has a 99% chance of winning.

However, the turnout assumptions used in a lot of these polls might be off the mark, overstating the amount of democrats that will show based on the 2008 election turnout. The republican party has seen its strongest resurgence since the Reagan years and Mitt enjoys a comfortable lead among independents.

Guess we'll have to see.

Here's my voting dilemma: I don't like either candidate. I feel like Obama has not done a great job... but Romney would be a step in the wrong direction. Should I be a hypocrite and give a candidate I don't support a better chance to win? I don't support either of them. I'm liberal on many issues but conservative on some. I'm really torn.

Fiscally conservative, socially liberal. The way I am and the way I feel a lot of young people are. Too bad someone like Huntsman didn't gain more traction.

In Canada we draw a penis on our ballot so it's counted as a protest vote

Someone on my facebook "I wish I had more pro Romney friends, I like to argue. Where are they all?"

A) You're Canadian why do you care so much

B) Why are you looking for a fightohwaityoureunemployed

If the state of PA wasn't being a bunch of assclowns and let me vote, I would have voted for Obama to help ensure Romney stays far away from any position of power.

Battle of the tallest midget and that's pretty much what I'd decide on. I stand by my decision to vote for Clinton in the primaries many years ago.

Yeah you have me pegged. It really comes down to a lack of choices which is a shame.
It's really all the medias fault. They ignore independent candidates and Ron Paul. Everyone thinks they election is only between two people when that's just a result of the media exposure.
