Lanny McDonald?
Pfffffft.
Cant believe Joey Mullen isnt on the list yet.
He was easily the best player back in the hey day, other than maybe Al MacInnis.
Shame on you people.

As good as Mullen was, he only played 4 full seasons for the Flames. The list is actually pretty solid. If Mullen played a few more years in CGY, he would easily be in the top 10 or higher. His 88-89 season was unreal, but not enough time to beat out guys like Roberts, Suter, etc.
(You could make a case against Nilsson, but he was so damn talented.. almost had 3 - 100pt seasons.)

Mullen was awesome.
Like has already been said though, only 4 seasons here. Just too short to be as meaningful IMO.

Flames don't make either SCF (in 86 or 89) without Mullen IMO. Just because he was tossed aside like garbage after 89 doesn't mean he didn't have an extremely meaningful 4 years.

You can say that about a lot of guys on the list thus far, and some still off of it.
2nd bolded, please elaborate.

As a die hard Oiler fan back in the days when the BOA meant something, Mullen was the player I feared the most on the Flames. To me, he was the best player when the Flames had their best teams.
That should mean something.

Traded for a draft pick in the summer of 1990 because he was "past his prime".

Well after the trade he only had one season above a ppg, but still he was worth more than a 2nd round pick.

That pick turned out to be Nicolas Perreault who played exactly zero games in the NHL. He played about half a season in the AHL.
There were some epic busts in the 80's/90's.
Scouting has gotten a lot better..
