I would put Beauvilier ahead of Deschênes who has stagnated. I feel like Beauvilier is significantly closer to Noel than to Deschênes at this point. I see Deschênes as a first round pick but not in the top-5 anymore. On a side note, big, hulking Nicolas Roy who did well as a 14 year old in Midget AAA last year has been very productive in the last few weeks and coming on strong.

Nope, Nicolas. Almost 6'4" and played well last year as a 14 year old in Midget AAA (31 points in 43 points). He was also invited to All-State event this summer and has 9 points in his last 4 games.

Forward

Colin White 6'1 170 - US Prep MA / Boston College 2016
Cam Askew 6'3 175 - US Prep MA / Northeastern 2016
Cal Burke 5'10 170 - US Prep MA / Uncommitted

Can a 1997 born player already be committed to NCAA?

They can be verbally committed until signed. A verbal can be broken without any legal ramifications but schools like Boston College don't hand out verbal commitments that they don't intend on honoring.

There is no downside in early commitments to a school like Boston College or Michigan for these kids. They can still chose to go the QMJHL route if they chose to but would then be giving up their NCAA eligibility. Schools like Boston College only commit the best in the USA early with the hope these kids continue to develop and that they won't go to the CHL.

A young commitment is the easiest to break, the older they get the harder.

Any college commitment can be broken without any legal ramifications.
Be it verbal or letter of intent, neither is a legally binding contract.

Well, it takes two to honor any commitment.
Kids can change their mind, especially when they decide on something major at 15.

Adam Erne and Brandon Shea had committed to schools at 15, Erne to the school "he had wanted to play for his whole life" and Shea to his father's alma mater.

Nicolas Roy had 5 points in two games on the road this week-end, against two solid teams (LSL and L-M). It gives him 14 points in his last 6 games and he is now top-10 in Midget AAA scoring and second (behind Beauvilier) in scoring amongst 97s. He is looking more and more like a lock for the top-5.

Watched some QMAAA this weekend and liked the following players:
Alexandre Alain (C/RW, SSF)
Thomas Chabot (D, LEV)
Xavier Desy (RW, CND)
Frédérick Mercier (D, CND)
Étienne Montpetit (G, CHA)
Mathieu Nadeau (RW, LEV)
and a '98, Nicolas Patry-Gingras (D, GAT)

Alain was by far the most impressive, followed by Mercier.

It's the first time they are playing in the Challenge. Last year the German team made it to the finals vs CEB. This year 4 Maritime teams plus the Espoir All star team will be spread amongst the divisions.

like Buff said, it's the first year they are in.

in the past they would invite 40 espoir kids and make an all star game of 20 vs 20
