Pit/min

To Pittsburgh:
Zack Phillips

To Minnesota:
Scott Harrington

Reason Pittsburgh does this:
Phillips is a good center and would fill in nicely on the 3rd line for Pittsburgh. He has a good array of tools and is a solid hockey player. He's buried currently behind Larsson, Koivu, and Granlund for the center position and we have a lot of talented forwards currently. We can at least lose on.

Reason Minnesota does this:
Phillips I think is the odd man out and right now, we need a few more projected defensemen. While Harrington is in London, he should be eligible for the AHL next year, which is where we'll need a few defensemen. Our defense also tends to get banged up. Brodin was a fluke but Scandella had a wrist injury, Fredheim is injured, Medvec is injured. It's ugly on our blueline and we could use a few more bodies in the future.

I would imagine the Wild would be more interested in Despres/Maatta/Dumoulin at the cost of Phillips.

I would think so but I think Pittsburgh holds them in higher regards.

At what price can the Ducks take Zack Phillips off of Minny's hands?

Then, you have Joe Vitale down there too. We don't need another center, but you're more than welcome to take Craig Adams!

I'm sure he's played a fair amount of wing and he has always been talked about as a player who might end up as a winger at the NHL Level.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Phillips is going to be awesome for the Wild when he eventually gets to the NHL.

Welinski straight-up for Phillips?

Minnesota gets their hometown, UMD-product OFD, while Anaheim gets a C/W prospect.

Terrible for the Wild.

Phillips was a 2011 1st round pick (28th overall).

Welinski was a 2011 3rd round pick (83rd overall).

Where they were picked last year shouldn't have too much bearing on what their value is now. Welinski won USHL defenseman of the year for Green Bay last season, while helping them win the championship.

Not terrible, but I can see where you'd think the Ducks should add. Basing the two off of draft position alone tells me how much you actually know about Welinski, though.

Pittsburgh doesn't need a third line center. That was the whole point of them getting Brandon Sutter in the Jordan Staal trade.

Bingo. Not to mention, Harrington brings what we need more than any other defenseman in the pipeline (pure shutdown d).

I think there's a deal to be made between Minny and Pittsburgh considering their respective strengths and weaknesses, but this ain't it.

I could see your point about draft selection if we're talking about players from 2008 or something.

But a 3rd rounder does not jump up to equal value to a 1st rounder after a year.

I read that he wont the USHL dman of the year, but look at the previous players who won that award. I mean Blake Kessel won that award, and he's awful.

That's about what it would take to pry one of those 3 from Pittsburgh at this point, but I doubt any Wild fans would sign off on it, particularly after the AHL start he's had.

Nikolai Zherdev 2003 1st round pick (4th overall)

Shea Weber 2003 2nd round pick (49th overall)

So I guess for this to work out Nashville needs to add?

Want a 3rd for Cousins, then?

That's a lateral move, and at least with Cousins I know what I'm getting.
