I think the Isles will need a marquee player especially now that they're moving into a new building. I don't see him going anywhere although with their owner and GM anything is possible. It would be nice to see him play with some good players though.
Who would you rather have instead? We can do it on the basis that NYI can negotiate an extension before going through with the trade, I guess.
If 22 yr old Tavares was moved, I'd want 22/23 yr old Stamkos. Yeah, I realize TB has no reason to move the more productive Stamkos. But, that's the type of return I'd want.

So you didn't read the OP. Realistically no one would give up Stamkos or Malkin for a downgrade(which it would be right now). No team has 22 year old superstars they'd be willing to trade in a lateral move. That is the offer I would make from a Canucks POV, if someone's willing to beat it, then they're welcome to.
I truley believe that there is not one single player in the League that he Isles would trade Johnny for Straight up.
Since NYI is rebuilding around Tavares, of course you're not going to get a more suitable player with high balance of current skill, potential, and youth.
But if he asked for a trade, there are plenty of players you'd trade him straight up for over trades which get you quantity and less quality. Not even mentioning slightly older players, Giroux, Stamkos, Karlsson, P. Kane, Toews, Pietrangelo, Doughty all would be sufficient to get Tavares.

This is exactly right. These value threads of players that will never be currently moved are exercises in futility.
Depending on the extra body we would require just to fill the roster out. A winger most likely of lesser value is obvious. But I'd hope for at least a right handed right winger
