10,000 Pt XXXII: Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos

Hey all,

With the US Election today, we the mods felt like it was important to make clear a couple of things regarding discussion of the election and political talk in general.

Primarily, please know that due to the high risk and commonality of flaming and arguments that result, HF's rules prohibit political discussion anyway on the site except the designated politics board. You can find that board here:

http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/fo...ysprune=&f=160

The politics board has a somewhat more lax standard of moderation, allowing for flaming and more aggressive posting as long as it remains on-topic and steers away from gross offensiveness or racist/sexist/bigoted behaviour.

You will be allowed to post news links and updates on the election here in the OT thread, but only impartial, factual news (hard voting #s, projections, etc). It cannot be colored by editorializing or commentary from you or the source you are quoting.

Any attacks on other posters over political issues or attempts to hijack the thread with political commentary or partisan material will not be tolerated. We will hand out infractions and thread bans at our discretion if we feel it's necessary.

This post will be the only warning we give. We don't expect problems, but we wanted to make sure everyone knew the score.

Thanks,
The mods

So after watching CNN it seems like before any of the hard numbers come in they keep trying to find reasons to show off and use all their fancy touch screen toys. Stuff like "I know how we said that this county is leaning towards this candidate and the other county towards the other...but what if I told you the same thing except with me using this awesome touchscreen table!".

I think they stopped because Wolf couldn't handle his excitement around them.

LOL, you're probably right. I remember getting all excited about it until I realized that they were glorified weather maps/green screens. No one on the set could actually see the "hologram" unless they were looking at a monitor that was off-camera. They lied!

So I love how they're like "so and so has this many electoral votes all from this state! after looking at 1% of the poles..."

I seem to remember a short story in school about the future where one guy was picked to vote for the whole nation. He didn't even really vote on a candidate; he just answered some random questions and the computers picked the winner off of that.

Don't they always do stuff like with Ohio? Stuff like "this mom and pop diner owners thoughts on the election and the fate of the nation".

Exit polls are counted as the day goes by, and in a number of states the first batch of exit polls confirms what they already suspect, that a large enough population is voting in one direction. A number of states are probably going to be called the moment the polls close. Texas to Romney, California to Obama, etc.

Once again, no political/ideal slants in the discussion of the elections or process, please.

*I'm not speaking about the post above me. I'm just giving a nudge to remind us all

From the looks of it if Romney doesn't win Florida, and by the number it's looking more and more likely, it looks extremely difficult and unlikely for him to get to 270. Virginia is still ridiculously close wow.

I'll admit it; I'm on the fourth hour of watching CNN's coverage. I'm hypnotized by the action in how they edit their broadcast. More camera changes than a sporting event

Damm, this election went by a lot faster than I expected. I wasn't expecting ANY media channel to call anything until tomarow, or in some cases late tonight.

Yeah, and apparently CNN called this election 18 minutes later than last time. Seems fast, still. CNN has awesome LCD microphone identities (those box thingies that say the station name on the mic).

Asimov. IIRC it was in collection of short stories with the Centennial Man.
