I would only give White a tryout contract to see where he is.

I'm a few posts late, but Sykora is useless if he's not in a second line role with a playmaker who can get him his shots. Too much baggage for any team to take on, really. Aside from maybe the Devils.

Far to weak on the boards both in the offensive zone and defensive zone to be useful. Trade for an underachieving big body who can win a battle or two.

Or is he too much of a goon?

Seeing how I believe the lockout is nearing its end, here is what I propose for lineups.

Henrique - Zajac - Kovalchuk
? - Elias - Zubrus
Pesonen - Josefson - Clarkson
Carter - Gionta - Bernier

I would settle for a big defensive 2nd/3rd liner to play with Elias and Zubrus at this point.

Trade who?

And why are you responding to your own post?

Jason Blake
Kristian Huselius (risky)

They are the three I have been looking at. We are too deep down the middle to consider Konopka.

A defensmen obviously. I'm not sure who is available, hell I'm not sure too much after this lockout. If something didn't happen in camp it may happen 15 games in or so.

Is Pesonen really good enough to play in a 3rd line NHL role? I'm no sure.

And there's no such thing as too deep down the middle. Who knows if Gionta sticks around, Josefson is made of glass, and many of our players (Elias, Josefson, Henrique, Zubrus, Carter) can play wing and center. Wouldn't mind Konopka on our 4th line as a faceoff specialist/enforcer, but I doubt we'd consider him with Barch already on the roster.

Huselius would be great for our top six and PP.

Pesonen:
1.) Loves to shoot, 2.42 s/g
2.) Is an agitator, it's safe to assume he will draw PIMs.
3.) Is a very good skater at 5`11 200
4.) Has decent vision.

I think it's a shoo in he will beat out Tedenby for that 3rd line role. He does more of the small things.

I'm still high an Tedenby so I personally disagree but it'll be a good, uhhh, preseason(?) battle.

Tedenby is a good skater and would probably be in the top in the NHL in drawn PIMs if he ever plays a full season. Has the skillset too, just needs to understand how to play in all three zones.

Definitely a goon. Only a fourth line role would work for him, and we have enough guys for that.

I am interested in bringing him in for a tryout, but we'll see.

What would suck about White is we're already paying him for the buyout. He lives in Jersey so I wouldn't read too much into him practicing with the team. Ryan Carter lives in Minnesota, and was practicing with Paul Martin, and Zach Parise not long ago. Peter Harrold was skating with the Hurricanes! Guess he's been to Raleigh!

That's one of the things I don't like about the Salvador contract. I think it will be fine for this year, and maybe next. I love Bryce, and wanted him back, but hope we don't regret that contract like we overpaid for White, and Pandolfo. Hopefully Zubrus is not overpaid. Zubrus should not get as much as he is now on his next contract. I don't think he should get more than $2 million a year, but $2.5 as long as we aren't near the cap would be fine.

The ship with Colin White sailed long ago, like bleedred said, many players are just practicing with players that live in the same area (Bobby Ryan with Philly as another example)

Yup besides who's spot does White take? Harrold is still the better option at this point. Brings offense too. I wish White would have been able to retire here with the Devils. He was just on a bad contract(Like Pandolfo, and Rolston) unlike Pando he was still serviceable. We just had to purge someone for Larsson, and it seemed to be him or Salvador. Salvador was coming off injury, and obviously Lou thought we were better off with him, or just didn't wanna kick him while he was down. Don't know what his reasoning was, but it worked out for the best.

Ya, but that was due to injury, not ability. His most recent numbers were pretty good, and that was with Columbus.

He's a solid guy. He'd make a nice addition to nj or any team IMHO.
Bleedred, I always liked C.White more. He was a tougher guy I always thought

Given we already have too many defensemen, I'm not sure.

I love what White did for the Devils in his time here, but Lou cut him for a reason, and the Sharks used him as an eighth defenceman last season too. No need to bring him back.

Also we're paying him a million this year on a buyout. Are we even allowed to have him on the team while we've got his buyout on our cap hit? There were some rumors about the Isles, and Yashin making a return for them not long ago. I would have taken John Madden(Even Brylin) over that awful 4th line we had last regular season. I was actually hoping we would pick up Madden for league minimum like Florida did. Colin White I'm gonna have to pass on.

Had it not been for a number of things including Larsson needing a spot, Salvador not just coming fresh off LTIR, and a BAD salary/cap hit, White would probably still be here. It might be for league minimum, but he probably would still be here.
