I have to think that he's coming back to the AL as a DH. No idea what team, but as a DH.

Jason Bay was great in his time here. Legitimate MVP candidate (I think he was 6th or 7th). Don't know why people didn't want him in the Manny deal.

That said, NO THANKS. There was a reason why Theo offered him two years- his body was breaking down according to the medicals. One of the few shrewd things Epstein did in his final years here.

he finished seventh, which seemed high. he was an above average left fielder, not much more.

Not only did he avoid that contract, but he managed to draft Anthony Ranaudo with the pick that he got for letting him go. Although Ranaudo had a down year, he's still a valuable asset.

the way that manny was juicing in 2008 there is no doubt in my mind that we would of repeated if we kept him.

Valid. He caught fire once he left if I recall.

But Bay did put up something like 35-120...not too shabby at all.

Very good point

While Ranaudo had a down year, reports out of Fall Ball are VERY encouraging. His velocity is back up again and he was quoted as saying his stuff felt back to normal. Could be a big breakout for him this year.

BTW, I am seeing a lot of early career Bernie Williams in Jackie Bradley Jr. (he won't hit 30 like Bernie eventually did), but 15-15 with a .290+ average and gold glove defense is fine by me.

Asked if he read into sitting again that a shift had taken place in Collins’ thinking about how he might be used going forward, Bay responded: “I just work here.”

There was something on 98.5 today about Masterson, Choo, and Cabrera. Was that just talk, or was there something to that. I can't imagine why Cleveland would trade any of them; but I like the idea.

It was just speculation. Jon Heyman said that he believes some deal with go down between Boston and Cleveland, with Masterson, Choo, Cabrera, and Chris Perez being the most likely guys that Boston would target.

If Arizona is actually willing to listen on Trevor Bauer, he jumps to the top of the list of trade targets. Unfortunately, they already have a surplus of outfielders, so that might be another situation where you might need a third team, or try to work a deal for both Bauer and Upton, with Ellsbury++ going the other way.

That's not true, just because he has us on his no trade doesn't mean he doesn't want to be here. It's a leverage thing, he'd most likely waive it for both New York and Boston.

when did Masterson become so special that they wouldn't think of dealing him?

He hasn't, which is why they are open to discussing him. They aren't actively trying to move him though.

with a good defense behind him, masterson is a good player. there's certainly value to having a 3.21 era in 216 innings, as masterson did in 2011. he struggled last year when he walked more guys and his strand rate dropped.

he's worth a look.
