Not only did he avoid that contract, but he managed to draft Anthony Ranaudo with the pick that he got for letting him go. Although Ranaudo had a down year, he's still a valuable asset.
Very good point
While Ranaudo had a down year, reports out of Fall Ball are VERY encouraging. His velocity is back up again and he was quoted as saying his stuff felt back to normal. Could be a big breakout for him this year.
There was something on 98.5 today about Masterson, Choo, and Cabrera. Was that just talk, or was there something to that. I can't imagine why Cleveland would trade any of them; but I like the idea.
It was just speculation. Jon Heyman said that he believes some deal with go down between Boston and Cleveland, with Masterson, Choo, Cabrera, and Chris Perez being the most likely guys that Boston would target.
If Arizona is actually willing to listen on Trevor Bauer, he jumps to the top of the list of trade targets. Unfortunately, they already have a surplus of outfielders, so that might be another situation where you might need a third team, or try to work a deal for both Bauer and Upton, with Ellsbury++ going the other way.
with a good defense behind him, masterson is a good player. there's certainly value to having a 3.21 era in 216 innings, as masterson did in 2011. he struggled last year when he walked more guys and his strand rate dropped.
