yeah, i get that
but that is also from our anti-Cgy/TO biased position
i think he would make our blueline quite formidable ...he does play the right side
also he's paid a LOT.
i would do luongo straight up, but dont think id add ...
I should clarify - the media pressure/scrutiny/criticism has been handled with a stiff upper lip. Like most players, he shows emotion when winning or losing a big game.
How do we, as fans, know that? Perhaps Kesler is of the same ilk? There are rumors about his persona as well. Yet, Kesler is one of the Canucks most valuable players.
I've got a close friend that played with Phaneuf, he's a dick. You don't have to take my word for it, he has that reputation.
Kesler is of the same ilk but he's got history and friendships on this team. He doesn't have the same history of poor relationships with his teammates that Phaneuf has.
There is only one player on the current Leafs' roster that would help the Canucks win the cup now. He's not one of the ones you listed. To move Schneider would require that player coming back in return. Do you know who that player is?
Ah, but there is a method to my madness. If we could pry a top end prospect like Gardiner or Rielly from Toronto. We could flip them to another team, who can address our needs. One such example would be Bobby Ryan or one of Anaheim's big two if they cannot resign both. Hell, perhaps Edmonton would be enticed to move Yakupov. Yes, we would have to add but, there will be many more teams willing to deal for a high ceiling defenseman in comparison to a goaltender.
lol on Luongo not being able to handle the pressure in Toronto. Jeebus they still revere Belfour in TO - they don't run their good goalies out of town.
I've been saying this for a while. IF Luongo were able to take us to the playoffs...he's an instant God.
I'm not trying to take you to task here, I'm genuinely curious, can you think of another starting goalie that has cried after a loss like that?
Off the top of my head, no, I can't. I seem to recall an instance where Tom Barrasso flipped out and started swearing at reporters after a big loss...not really the same thing, but similar ballpark?
Who is Clark MacArthur? Why would you think he is worth Luongo?
Why are we still going on with Toronto rumours? The smartest thing to do is keep Luongo untill a few more teams are added to those that need a goaltender. If there is any hockey this year,we could have (for example)Washinton,Chicago,Ottawa that maybe are in need of help in net.We could end up in a bidding war for Luongo. That could be way better then the Toronto and Edmonton stuff that keeps comming up.And i do not beleive that Luongo would be a cancer in the dressing room as long as he is with the Canucks.
If we're trading Schneider, it should be for a young stud. This trade puts us in such Cup-or-bust mode it hurts.
yeah, the mule is great, but a lot of risk
he's Luo's age, with a near $4M cap hit til he's 40, and has never played a full season since his first.
his playoff #s are pretty damn good though.
I'd consider it for Luongo, without the throwin pick from us... admittedly makes it less appealling for them
but if it's the orig deal, would just as soon take the deal straight from TO (Gardiner, 2nd)

Oh, I agree. Hence my mention of Anaheim earlier. This was more trying to involve a different team. Ideally, we nab Ryan or Perry in the three way and call it done.

Personally, I would chase one of Anaheim's big three myself but Detroit is another team with some apply. I do see them possibly adding but keeping Gardiner is somewhat unnecessary. At best, he plays on the third pairing and we still lack upfront. Although, I certainly wouldn't say no to just the Toronto deal.
Schneider, Schroeder for JVR, 1st is something I'd be willing to do.
Only reason I never bring up JVR is I doubt Burke wants to move him. If we can do this, I'm all for it. Put whatever protection you want on that first.

Because we have some good young winger in Kassian and Jensen in the pipeline I think we could make that work.
