Didn't catch the entire interview but sounds as if Pavel would like to see his number up in the rafters. Doesn't seem like he's opposed to the idea. Suppose the Canuck organization is holding up the recognition? Thoughts?

You might be right but I don't understand this to be honest. The Canucks have new ownership and Gillis was Bure's agent. Bure's getting in the Hall of Fame and none of the other guys with their jerseys up there are in the Hall. Get it done Gillis!

Bure is the best Canuck of all time, but he should not be honoured. He demanded a trade out of town. Let’s not cheapen the retirement of Canucks jerseys any more than they already have been.
I've gotten the impression from what Gillis has said (there may have been an article or a radio review, but but I can't find it) that they have reached out to Pavel about honoring him, but that Pavel wasn't interested in what they had in mind.
My take-away from that was that Gillis and Co. proposed he be in the Ring of Honour, and Bure feels his number should be hanging fromt he rafters.
I think the trade demand excuse is just a smoke screen. I wonder if his alleged association with the Russian Mafia is what is actually holding up his jersey retirement.

There's two sides to the story. Bure was not always treated well by the Canucks and had asked for, and was promised, a trade a long time before he made an actual trade demand.
The fact that Bure's number isn't retired is a joke. He's the most talented player to ever wear the Canucks jersey. He brought huge relevance to our team back when the Canucks weren't a hot ticket item. I remember there were some rumblings something might be up when Booth wasn't allowed to wear 10. This was post-Bure snubbing the ROH rumour. Hopefully we do retire his number soon. I'd love to see Bure in Vancouver one more time.
Its extremely difficult for the organization to retire his number based ont he way he left the team. At the time, there's no way we were going to retire this punks number. 90% of Canucks fans would say this at the time. However it's a totally different story now. I say we retire this guys number and honor him.
Anyone listening to 1040? They are basically confirming francesco aquilini flew to Florida to ask bure to have his number retired recently.
Quote:
“Francesco called him with some really good news,” said Gino Odjick, who is in Florida with Bure, his life-long friend. “He is extremely happy about it.
