Orioles look like they are going for it, and are apparently looking at Hamilton and Ross. Smart move, the AL East balance of power is in complete shambles and now is their window.
The Justin Upton rumours are starting up again but he might cost too much to acquire. If they can't get him, then I'm on the Hunter bandwagon as well.
I'd love to get Upton, but you're right, the price is going to be very high. Would like his bat in our lineup though, Ortiz needs another big bat for protection.
The thing with Upton, actually both of them, is that they always seem to disappoint year after year. Don't get me wrong, they are both valuable players, but both were supposed to be superstars....we are still waiting on their breakout years. I would like either of them but wouldn't overpay based on potential that they might not ever realize. I think this is why ARZ is always shopping Justin..I think they are starting to get frustrated/tired of waiting for him to have that monster year.

Trade from a posistion of strength. Ceccini, Ellsbury, long lead SP (montas, kukuk), salty, kalish maybe one real sp prospect not named barnes. If a combination of that isnt enough tell Arizona to have a nice day
He did. Not anymore. 4 new teams this year. And it was not because he didn't want to play for us anyway- it was because he can use it as leverage.
Bingo, no trade clauses aren't what they seem for the top players.
and FWIW....

Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reports that the Red Sox are expected to pursue a trade for Justin Upton.
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reported earlier Wednesday that, despite previous comments from their owner to the contrary, the D'Backs will shop Upton this offseason. The Red Sox are on the outfielder's no-trade list, but Silverman's source says that will not keep Boston from going after him. The Rangers would also make sense as a trade partner, with Rosenthal speculating that they could deal Elvis Andrus for Upton.
BTW, what makes Upton so much better than Ellsbury? Ellsbury has the highest single season homer totals out of both of them and adds a dynamic speed dimension.
You wouldn't have to add much at all to Ellsbury to get Upton. But that is beside the point, because the Diamondbacks would not be looking for another outfielder.

Arizona is looking for SS/3B, that's why I said we'd have to part with WMB or Bogaerts. Ellsbury is an injury risk, and didn't come close to his 2011 stats last season. If he had stayed healthy for the most part while with us I'd want an extension for him. Upton is a power bat which we could really use to protect Ortiz. We have JBJ who could possibly be ready to take over CF for the next 10 years by mid season.
If they're going after Upton I'd think they're shopping Ellsbury or using it as leverage to resign him. I'm guessing Ellsbury has zero interest in staying, and they know that so they're going for his replacement right now.

Defense, age, and injuries make Upton a better option but the contract situation is important as well. Ellsbury will be a free agent after next season and Boras will probably be looking for a similar contract to what Crawford got. Giving Ellsbury a deal like that would be a huge risk and a mistake IMO. Upton is under contract through 2015.
I doubt Arizona would be interested in Ellsbury. It'll probably take a couple of top prospects to get Upton.
