The "Hindsight is 20/20" Thread

I thought it might be fun to have a thread to capture some of those wonderful gems of wisdom hiding in the HF Boards archives. A quick search brought up some of these beauties. (all in good fun of course, as I know I've got some I wish I could take back).

Various threads about Erik Karlsson not being good enough to dominate the NHL. Most of us would be guilty of that.

Disaster(Alfie Trade) Averted, link

Lunch bunch on CFRA (http://www.cfra.com) is saying Alfredsson or Volchenkov may be going to LA. Apparently some of the Kings office were at the game last night and watching the two of them.
Most Sens fan in the thread thought the trade was a bad idea. In hindsight, I suppose the thread reaching 20 pages is puke worthy.

This thread is all kind of weird, link, I didn't know Volchenkov was so highly thought of at one point. This in particular was funny:

I guess he never imagined the perfect offensive D-man would actually one day exist.

Obviously Kadri is better than MPS and would've been a nice pick, but you have to remember we would have had to give up Cowen + Lehner to get him.
And this one is a dandy: What Senators Jersey will be retired after Alfies?

I was a Clouston fan after he got us to the playoffs and we put up a good fight against Pitt - and when we melted down the next year I wanted Murray gone - wrong on both.

Also, I was never a Gerber or Leclaire fan and slammed both acquisitions, I did the same for Anderson who I like now, I think he's just keeping the seat warm fro Lehner, but he is a decent starter.

I absolutely loved the Vermette trade and thought we robbed them blind getting Leclaire
I was somewhat stoked to get Floatalev
Wanted MPS instead of Cowen

I thought Filatov was going to be the next great thing for us.
I was also pissed when we picked Zibanejad over Couturier

I wanted the 67s to pick Tyler Cuma in 2008.

That one really stings. We passed on a guy who looks like he will be an excellent 1st liner for a guy who has the potential of being an elite 3rd liner.

Not sure if serious.

No one knows what will happen. Couts could stall in his development and he could never get better while Zbad could have a massive breakthrough in a season or 2. Your comment is pretty ridiculous.

Couturier has been putting up points at every level and he keeps producing as he's climbing up the levels (One could argue the AHL is step down for him since he played in the NHL last year but he's currently above a PPG over there on a very averge club).

Zbad has never put up great numbers at any level. To expect him to suddenly become an offensive dynamo in the highest level hockey on the planet when he's never shown that capability at lower levels is...interesting. Could happen I guess.

I never said I expected him to be a dynamo but labeling him as an elite 3rd liner as his max is pretty ridiculous at this point.

No matter if you're a believer or says "anything can still happen", there's not gonna be much of a case for Zibanejad from past nor present vs. Couturier.

But then again, anything could still happen.

Couturier is not a great skater and I think taking Zibby over him came down to the fact that Ottawa is trying to build and elite skating team cantered around Karlsson - Couturier isn't really the type of Center you think of on a high tempo, attack team.

I'd be more in the Dougie Hamiton boat, if we had him coming up this year and Ceci the next our D would look to be elite - then again if we didn't have a fast, big bodied attack style forward we would be missing him as Stone is slow, Silf is a skill player and the rest of your forward prospects are small top 6 guys (Prince, De Costa, Petersoon) or big grinders (Grant, Maidens)

Maybe we use Zibby in a package for an elite player - maybe if Anaheim stumbles this year we do:

Ana: Zibby, Ott 1st 2013, Bishop, Hoffman
Ott: Corey Perry

We may not have Couturier, but we have his kryptonite, JGP I watched this kid single handedly shut him down game after game in the playoffs in his draft year.

He had mono for a long time explaining why he was lacking energy. Kinda like Grigorenko who is pretty much proving every who passed him over wrong. I take Grigorenko over Yakupov myself even. Buffalo got a steal because a guy had "mono". I was secretly hoping he would fall to us because I knew the sens would take him (see draft video)

I wanted couturier at the time but was happy when i found out more about z. We still don't know who will turn out better. No one here knows.
But, if you can imagine a situation where zib is up against couturier as centers in the nhl, it's not crazy to think zwould shut him down and excel offensively with his speed and skill. I imagine z skating circles around him.

Just another comment we're going to laugh off in 2-3 years, those are needed too

Personally, I'm still totally fine with Zibanejad instead of Couturier, I'm ready to be patient... lol there's not even NHL hockey right now

Holy jump to conclusions batman, get busy people.
