This is false. Schenn was ranked higher because he was a safer bet to reach his potential and closer to NHL ready...much like Murray was in this year's draft. Myers definately was considered to have a higher upside, but also a much greater bust potential as well.
While I wasn't expecting the Leafs to draft Rielly, I was thrilled that we took a prospect who was basically the opposite of Schenn...gots to swing for the fences at 5th overall imho.
I know this is a Morgan Rielly thread but what a steal the Leafs could have in Connor brown drafted in 6th round. Has 20 points playing for a crappy Erie Otters team.
Morgan Rielly, Matt Finn, Connor Brown, Dominic Toninato(tied for 7th in USHL) looking like great draft picks so far.
Add Joshua Leivo to that list. Although, he's not from that draft list.

That's not even true. Myers was seen a boom/bust type who would need more time before reaching the NHL where Schenn was seen as a safe pick who was already very close to NHL-ready. The Sabres just swung for the fences in 08 taking Myers and Ennis.
Another strong game by Morgan despite his team losing in S.O. He was by far and away the best player from either side according to the Hitmen broadcasters.

I was at the game tonight and at times Reilly just dominated and took control over the pace of the game. Although he started to slow down near the ending right around the time he got hit knee on knee. Let's hope its not serious
This guy is scary good. I'm very cautious with hyping up prospects. That too of the Toronto Maple Leafs but this guy justifies the hype. He is a treat to watch and Toronto has their very own Erik Karlsson in the making.
He's gonna be hyped to no end. I really hope Toronto doesn't throw him under the bus if he doesn't play like a Norris candidate in his first few years.
IMO the 2012 draft class for the Leafs is going to end up being one of the best drafts if not the best draft the organization has had in a long long time. (Reilly, Finn, Brown) 2 out of the three look like steals at the moment and one is a blue chipper.
I know I pump Rielly's tires a lot and make the videos and such, but it would be foolish to overlook the fact that Morgan DID get caught up the ice a lot last night. I think anyone who watched the game would agree.
I do think he needs to rein it in a bit 5 on 5. On the PP and 4 on 4, he's dynamite... absolutely lethal. 5 on 5 I think he should use the rest of the year to focus on the defensive side of his game.
He's got an Erik Karlsson like ability and mind to know when to join the rush and pressure offensively, but he doesn't quite have Karlsson's ability to identify when to bail out and get back just yet. It hasn't come back to bite him yet because, well...he's so much better than everyone else in the WHL that he rarely gets caught. At the next level, I think he might get a wake up call when he's not able to do whatever he wants with the puck down low in the o-zone and he'll find himself caught more often.
Morgan Rielly covers the ice like no other player ive ever seen. I swear im watching Leetch out there. Hes unbelievable. Im not sure if his puck patience and shot compares to the two you mentioned above, but his mobility could very well be what separates him from the pack.

Absolutely not. haha I meant to specify. Seperate himself from the rest of the D prospects. Hes got a long way to go to get letang and karlsson status..
