He tends to be staying on the perimeter, shying away from any form of physicality.
On the other hand, his European counterpart Martin Reway, has definitely had more impact than Hyka up to now, be it from a offensive creativity standpoint as well as from a physical involvement perspective.
Reway is 5'8'', weighs 158lbs and is 17 years old.
Let's hope and see if Hyka follows the young kid's lead or even better, decides to take charge himself...

He has the makings of a very good 3rd liner. I'm hopeful about his future.

He now has as many goals as he did all of last year

edit: And Shore now has nine points in four games. Wow.

Nic Dowd had a goal and an assist last night as well and is #2 in scoring in the nation, with 10 pts in 6 games. Nick Shore has 9 pts in only 4 games...and of course Forbort is killing it!

Tonight in Denver, it was King prospects Nic vs Nick. Nic Dowd of St Cloud St vs Nick Shore of the Denver Pioneers....St Cloud won, 3-0, with Nic Dowd scoring 2 goals. He now has 6 goals and 6 assists to become #2 scorer in the nation. They face each other again tomorrow and I plan on attending!

Paul Ladue has 10 helpers in 9 games in the USHL. Not bad for a defenseman. He'll be joining Forbort in North Dakota next season.

He's injured right now so he has a smaller sample size, which skews stats. Nonetheless, I don't care much for him. He's a competitive player but struggles with fundamentals.

I went to tonight's Denver U vs St Cloud St game. Bought a 3rd row corner ticket for $27 at the door. I got some good pics of Nick Shore, Nic Dowd and Kevin Gravel and will post them later. Nick Shore looks strong in all areas of the game; he skates well, is poised, has very good hockey sense and can make plays and shoot the puck. He showed very good hands in warmups, scoring some nice placed shots. In the game, he had 1 goal and an assist. He was very good on faceoffs too. He was named Star #2. For St Cloud, I must say Nic Dowd looks very awkward in terms of skating and overall movement. His speed is ok and he battles for pucks, as well as shows good offensive instincs, but I swear he looks like the 6'8" Steve McKenna (if you remember him) in terms of skating. Nic is listed at 6'2" and may be about 6'3", so I am not saying he is 6'8', but his skating isn't pretty to watch. In the 3rd, he was coming out of his zone and got stripped from behind, in which the DU player scored. Ouch.
Kevin Gravel looked very solid. He is listed at 6'4" 200. He skates very well, looks sound positionally and is good in front of his net and on the boards. I was pretty impressed with his play. He is a Junior and will only get better. Anyway, it was awesome to see live hockey again.

Thanks for the feedback PJB. I didn't watch them play tonight but your observations mirror exactly what I saw months ago at development camp.

Curious how Ebert is looking so far this season. His numbers look ok, but just wondering if anyone has had a chance to watch him.

You have to remember he plays in the Q. They don't really play defenseman. They usually just put 5 forwards out on the ice every shift.

I'm still really excited about Gravel. Guy gets no love. I wonder if he plans on staying for all 4 years.

Hahahaha. That actually isn't too far from the truth....

I could totally see Gravel going the Matt Greene route, 3-4 years of college and becoming an NHL, AHL tweener right after that.

Forbort with a goal in North Dakota's game against Minnesota-Duluth.

In terms of improvement, Forbort has really stepped up his play this year.

Dowd with a 3 point night, now has 17 points (8G, 9A) in 12 games. Tied for the league lead in scoring, with Nick Shore
