Before last year's trade deadline, Chiarelli was asked about the possibility of trading Hamilton. His response, as near as I can remember, was "Heh, heh, no. No, no, no. No."

You can argue relative worth until the cows come home. Boston likes Seguin (and he likes Boston), and Hamilton will be groomed to be Chara's replacement. Neither are going anywhere.

Why in the world do the Oilers do this exactly?
A big need going forward for the Oilers is a number 1 defenseman.

Doug Hamilton fills this need for the future.

2011 NHL draft Hopkins-Landeskog-Huberdeau-Larsson-Strome-Zibanejad-Scheifele-Couturier-Hamilton-Brodin.

2012 NHL draft Yakupov-Murray-Galchenyuk-Reinhart-Rielly-Lindholm-Dumba-Pouliot-Trouba-Forsberg.
Sorry but now you're just being silly. Yakupov is more talented offensively than anyone in the 2011 draft, I think he would've gone first overall. Even in the 2010-2011 season Yakupov's numbers are better than almost all of the forwards in the 2011 draft.

Boston says no. Edmonton says maybe, but I doubt they would either.

If Edmonton has this "big need" for a defenseman, we would have just drafted a better one last year.

We have enough defensemen coming up in the system and trading Hall and Yakupov would be the dumbest thing they could do right now.

2012 draft did't have a clear number 1 defenseman.The Oilers do have a big need for a top pairing defenseman.

Better than Hamilton? He is the best defensive prospect in the world, sheesh.

If there was a defenseman like Seth Jones in the 2012 draft, the Oilers would've picked Jones over Yakupov.

No deal from Edmonton. Hall and Seguin are a wash, but I'd take Yakupov all day, everyday over Hamilton.

Career potential

Yakupov=number 1 right winger

Hamilton=number 1 defenseman

This deal is not that bad for the Oilers.

Yakupov's absolute highest potential is much higher than Hamilton's, don't you agree?

Not to mention rookie forwards usually have a higher impact than rookie defensemen.

Because EDM is clearly worried about contending for the Cup in their rookie season....

Hamilton as previously mentioned is needed to be Bostons future stud anchor on D. While Yakupov would be exciting, Boston has a good stable of scoring wingers as of now (Marchand Lucic Horton). Bostons need is on defense.

*If Seguin proves he can take over #1 center duties this season, I'd be curious to look into this deal below:

To EDM:
Malcom Subban
David Krejci

To BOS:
Nail Yakupov
MPS
Counter:

To BOS

Eberle, MPS, Whitney

To EDM

Subban, Krejci, Boychuk

...flame away

Well, we're certainly not going to treat next season as a developmental season again. It's going to be a few years before Hamilton will reach his potential whereas Yakupov has the ability to pot 30 goals, 60 points right off the bat.

Edit - Not saying Yakupov's full ability is 30 goals, 60 points, just that he can have a big impact right away.

This proposal makes no sense; Boston is not filling any need; Edmonton is not receiving anything close to the value they are offering.

Hall= Seguin

Boston fans would love Yak
Edmonton fans would love Hamilton

Neither will be traded.

The end.

The Hall and Seguin debate is still a wash. Both have progressed just fine and both franchises are very happy with who they got.

I doubt that Hamilton would have went 1st in this years draft.

When did he go in 2011 again?

Yak is doing quite well in the K and Edmonton isnt as desperate for D as most people think.

Justin Schultz is having a pretty good season. Player of the month in the AHL and Klefbom could be a top 4 D man in just a season or two. Petry is good and getting better and Smid and N Schultz are studs defensively.

Neither team does this trade.

Eliminate Boychuk & Whitney from the trade & I'd certainly do it. Whitney is too hobbled, he's the 'Hemsky of the blueline',, I want no part of him

This post is laughable

"It'll be a few years for Hamilton to reach his potential, YET Yakupov will pot 30 goals immediately"

Cool.

swap Krejci for Seguin and Edmonton considers this deal.

No way Edmonton does this. If they are that desperate for a center, they will move Hall there.
