Nice, thanks. Really hope he pans out so it in part makes up for the 'reach' selection of Moroz.

He's got a great toolbox.

I'm shocked that he doesn't score a lot more.

Despite the fact that some of the Russians have experience playing in the CHL they look lost on the small ice.

I was watching while doing other things and I kept saying, "who is this guy? he looks good". Had volume down.

It was Zharkov

Yakupov has looked pretty terrible these past 2 games. I don't know if its because hes not trying or because he is just tired. His line had zero chemistry, but then again non of the other lines looked too great.

Zharkov looked solid out there, definitely looked a lot bigger than I thought he was.

The Subway Super Series could be much better if the scheduling & travel time for Team Russia was ever at least reasonable.

As it is...games like tonight are bound to happen.

Yakupov is clearly one of the fastest (if not the fastest) skaters to have participated in any game up to this point. He had a chance to do some damage on a rush tonight but lost the handle on the puck. His penalty was a good call. Those "submarine hits" have been south of acceptable for awhile now and I think most people prefer it that way.

Other than that...Yakupov was somewhat innocuous. Equipment problems early in the game....lost a linemate for awhile later in the game and seemed to either be too far from the puck or trying to make plays to linemates who were too far from him.

I think he will use the next few days to rest up and come out flying after the weekend.

No one can get him the puck. I honestly can't remember one time where someone made a successful pass to him at the blue line or when he was in stride. The only time he gets it is when HE has to start the breakout, which can only be frustrating.

Pretty much what I was seeing as well. ^

Could also be a product of Yakupov having grown used to higher skill and experience in the KHL. He might need to remember these guys aren't comfortable making the kind of plays he is putting together in the pro level.

Agreed.

Yakupov is playing well but there is only so much he can do when three defenders converge on him and none of his teammates can take a hard pass.

He won't have this problem when playing with RNH/Hall/Eberle/Hemsky

ya, it is tough. on one hand Yakupov is not so impressive that he can do it all on his own. On the other hand he looks like the best player on the ice, he just can't get a pass or open ice for the life of him.

First time seeing Zharkov play and I was quite impressed. He's got pretty good skill and was one of the more effective players on the Russian side. He's pretty tenacious on the puck and uses his body well too.

Yakupov looked kinda frustrated but I would be too if I played with Kasputin. Man that guy sucks ass. Its hard for Yaks to do anything also when all the attention from the other team is on him.

Not sure IATL. Not sure.

Yak looked impressive with the puck on the string and Monahan well we need him.

You watch the game?

Did you like the pick originally?

Mcdavid equals Crosby minus a half point.

My initial reaction was one of shock and a little bit of disbelief. I couldnt believe they took him that early. Like most of us I was hoping Samuelsson would still be around. Sadly, that wasnt to be.

But I was/am a fan of Moroz, just didnt think we should take him that early, but have been told that other team's (more than one) were ready to take him in the second round, so it was either we take him at 32 or lose him altogether.

I find it amusing that Zharkov receives nothing but praise and accolades and was a "steal" while Moroz is universally panned as a "reach" or a "goon" or a "bust", when Moroz is outscoring Zharkov and that isnt even the strongest part of his game.

What does Zharkov bring if he isnt scoring?

I don't think anyone can say that Moroz isn't doing better than Zharkov. But that's not the point when people complain about Moroz. The reason people will complain about Moroz and not the Russian is that Zharkov was taken 60 spots later. If the Oilers had taken Eberle 20 spots higher or 20 spots lower the perception of him would be completely different. If they had taken him 1st or 60th the perception would be even more different.

Many of the players people wanted in that spot have been questionable this year. Dalton Thrower for instance. The only guy I can say right now that looks better than Moroz atm would be Severson for Kelowna, and do we really need another d prospect in the system? Or do we need some forwards with some grit?

Who are the forwards with grit in our system atm?

I count Ewanyk and Moroz and that's it.

People whine and complain that nobody protects our stars, or that we are soft up front, and then when management does something about it through the draft, they whine about how few points Moroz has.

Now people are suggesting that Zharkov would be a possible linemate for Yakupov? When he is rolling along at a .5 ppg clip in junior as a 19yr old? Not likely. And what else does Zharkov bring to the table if he isnt scoring?
