I don't expect Hungary to actually qualify for the Olympics, but i hope they at least do well in this tournament. it appears that both Janos Vas and Janos Hari are playing. too bad Zoltan Hetenyi isn't though.

also rooting for Korea. They've got Cho Min Ho and Kim Ki-Sung, but not Dong Hwan Song.

Croatia went to Hungary with only 17 players, 15 skaters and 2 goalies. Many injuries and more than few declines.

Has there been any talk among Medvescak to join the KHL? With those attendance numbers I'm sure running a KHL team could be possible

Yep, our team is entirely made up of domestic players. So no Dalhuisen, Nagtzaam, Mason (NCAA Div. I), Schaafsma (CHL) or Brandasu (Norway). And we're missing quite a few players (Tummers, Smid, Van Biezen, Natte) due to injury as well.

The Hungarians should win this in a landslide.
Today it was reported that the final game on Sunday is completely sold out :-)

Pretty much exactly what i had expected. Croatia's goalie stinks. I assume they are intensively scouting Canada to find a better one

Regarding streams, pretty good quality Ukrainian streams are available for each Ukraine's match at onhockey.ru. Other than that I haven't found any

Well that went better than I expected regarding roster we sent. I know that Dutch roster wasn't the strongest one either, but still much better than our at the moment. Only positive from this game for croatian fans is to see Rendulic with two points, seems he fully recovered after ankle injury.

He also took a 10 min. Misconduct, though.

Dutch delight in Budapest

Marcel Kars scores three as Netherlands defeat Croatia

09-11-12

BUDAPEST - Netherlands opened their quest for an Olympic ticket on a bright note. The Dutch team defeated Croatia by a lopsided score of 8-2.

Croatia went undefeated in their preliminary qualifcation tournament but soon learned that they were facing a different level of opposition in Budapest.

Although the Netherlands controlled most of the play in the first period it was Croatia who were most dangerous on the counter atttack. Borna Rendulic came closest when his shot hit the inside of the post after four minutes of play.

Eventually it was Marcel Kars who rebounded home from close range after 10:32 to bring the Netherlands the lead and turn the game in Dutch favour. Within two minutes the netherlands extended their lead to 3-0 thanks to goals by Kevin Bruijsten and another one from Marcel Kars to definitely set themselves apart from the Croats.

Marcel Kars has never been a prolific goal scorer when donning the Orange jersey. The 35-year old forward had one of his most productive games since first representing the Netherlands in 2004 with three goals and four points.

"It's nice that I can contribute on the scoreboard now," said the hat trick hero"who saw the C stripped from his jersey. "The coaching staff decided to hand the captaincy to a younger player and told me to lead my example on the ice. I think I managed to do so today."

Having just 15 skaters registered Croatia had a hard time keeping up with the energetic skating Orange team. The Netherlands ended the period with a 6-0 score and also saw Kevin Bruijsten ringing a penalty shot on the iron.

The Netherlands scored two more goals in the third period before they took their foot of the pedal.

With 3:29 left to play Croatia ruined Ian Meierdres shut out bid when Marko Tadic' shot from the blue line found a way past the Dutch goaltender. One minute later Croatia earned another goal after Rendulic scored on a breakaway to earn the applause of the fans of the Budapest Arena. Any hopes of a miraculous comeback were thwarted by the final buzzer though as the Dutch hung on to their 8-2 lead.

"After seeing their roster we did expect to win" Marcel Kars said afterwards. "However I expected the game to be much close 5-2, 5-3 like."

Marco Postma led the Dutch with a goal and four assists as The Netherlands outshot Croatia 44-19.

Both teams will play again tomorrow. Croatia will meet hosts Hungary while the Netherlands will try to remain unbeaten when they face Lithuania in the afternoon game.

I don't even know if it's good for Medvescak. Kristan is such a brilliant goalie, he's better than half of KHL ones and I'm pretty confident at the moment he's better than Dekanich who may never be the same after an injury

I agree with you, Kristan is great goalie, but he plays for Slovenia, and Dekanich is croat descent so after two seasons he could suit up for Croatia. He may not be the same after injury, but still could be serviceable backup for KHL and real diffirence maker for Croatia NT against teams from D1B.

I doubt that Dekanich would be willing to cross the pond only to be a backup and I doubt that Medvescak could afford him as a backup even more. On the other hand, yes, he's obviously better than any other Croatian goalie by a country mile and national team would really use him.

You've just quoted "Mark Dekanich will come if Medvescak joins KHL " so are you blind or smth? No offense but your question is ridiculous.

It's not clear if Medvescak will join the KHL in the first place and nobody knows for sure who will play where next season, it's November for God's sake. So OBVIOUSLY it's just a speculation.

IF Medvescak will join the KHL Dekanich MAY sign a deal with them and still he wouldn't be eligible to play for Croatia until 15/16
