Not only that but the game itself has generated more revenue each year since the last one. Granted not every team is profitable but that is why they are redoing the cba. And not only that Bettman worked for Stern and the NBA for a number of years. These lockout talks have similarities to the NBA's last year. The NBA had a season.
There was another lockout? Weird... That stinks...

I have to believe Fehr knew this would be leaked.
Too much posturing in the memo for it to be intended as an "update".
Sends another subtle message to Bettman that they aren't caving and are already sacrificing quite a bit but does so without violating any promises of confidentiality that may have been agreed upon in the room.

It's really easy to figure out what side of the negotiation the hockey guys on twitter are getting their information from. The "no movement" is coming from owners that are dissatisfied with the players no accepting their proposal. The "progress" is coming from players who see the owners' improving proposals as a step in the right direction.

Seems like every Fehr memo somehow gets leaked.

The owners are telling the media that they are not close to getting a deal. The PA is this and that. Fehr leaks the memo to the media. Same thing. All yesterday you read on twitter about the two sides not being close. That comes from somewhere. The owners were talking to their buddies in the media.

Reading between the lines or speculating, the NHL make whole is for 2 years. PA wants it for more than 2 years. Brooks wrote something yesterday about that. Fehr indicated the make whole falls short. The NHL gets their 50-50 in this CBA. The PA wants a soft landing. Fehr talked about that in the memo. The cap would drop. The NHL needs to have a 2 year transition period like the NBA. The NHL is being greedy with the system issues. Besides getting a mechanism to curtail those dummy contracts, they shouldn't gain a year in free agency and arbitration. The ELC? The NHL wants 2 years now than wanting 5 years. 2 years guaranteed plus 3 team options.

I think that Fehr memo is a bluff. Trying to get the NHL owners to give more to the players.

Sources say there's progress...Then others say there's not. Quite confusing. Might be to get the owners than anything

The first meeting dealt with pensions. The second meeting will deal with the good stuff.

It's possible that different reporters have different sources. Assuming that these sources are owners that would mean that different owners interpret the meetings differently. Such as the Bruins owner might still think the two sides are worlds apart while Dolan might think legitimate progress is being made.

I'm sure if you asked NBA small market team owners about how the lockout was going before a deal was made they would emphasize how far apart the two sides were... then a deal was suddenly struck. I would guess small market teams will be disappointed with the new CBA in the NHL too and that a deal will suddenly just happen.

How do they decide which owners will attend these meetings? Why isn't Dolan there? Gary's too afraid Dolan will keep him on a leash?

Dolan and Bettman don't like each other. At all. A few years ago, Bettman threatened to force Dolan to sell the team. That whole website fiasco.

All I can see is the PA handing over a proposal, Dolan doesn't even look at it and says DEAL! And Gary saying WTF Jim?!?

So far, no substantive talks between #nhl and #nhlpa talks today. Pension subcommittee's only. League waiting for Fehrs at 3:30 ET
https://twitter.com/Russostrib/statu...91959741177857

The NHLPA has reportedly been having internal meetings this morning. The PA lawyers are handling the pension talks. The NFL lockout was settled at the same law offices. Same law firm represents the NHL and NFL. In fact,Bob Batterman represents both leagues. Another lawyer from the firm handles the NBA and MLB.

I believe they set up a committee, just like the players.
