They're both based on QNX but BlackBerry 10 is quite a bit different (and more powerful) than the PlayBook Tablet OS 2.1.

So for work I have to carry around a BB Curve, and I'll admit, I'm an iPhone guy... I've had it for a week or two and hate the damn thing. Any tips I for me in any regard? It is such a pain in the ass to try and read an email, or look at a product online with this thing.

BlackBerry 10 is a lot more than that. It's the progression of QNX. The Integration alone is way ahead of Tablet OS 2.1.

Yeah the Curve line isn't very good. It's the Entry Line for BlackBerry and it certainly doesn't do a lot to help the BlackBerry image.

What model Curve is it? If it's the BlackBerry 7 Curve you can upgrade the OS to 7.1 and then use it as a Mobile Hotspot for your iPhone, provided that your IT department hasn't locked down those features.

Curves are weak. Bold is the only way to go.

They're fine, but lack the keyboard of the 9900.

Well the Bold 9900 definitely has the best Physical Keyboard ever but the Torch 9810 Keyboard is pretty good.

I have no idea which Curve it is, but they bought it recently at a Sprint store FWIW.

How exactly do I update it?

Download the free BlackBerry Desktop Software from the BlackBerry website. Once it's installed plug your BlackBerry into the USB and run all the updates.

Can someone please tell me how come everyday at 4:37 PM it says I last accessed BlackBerry Messenger? I know for a fact that I have not done that and if it matters I always keep my staus on there as busy.

So ever since I updated the OS(yesterday), browsing threads where people have posted big pictures, the browser resizes to fit the entire picture in the frame and causes the rest of the pages, including the text, to be tiny. Anyway to stop it from doing this?

On my playbook btw, here's a picture for reference: http://i.imgur.com/jx0TX.png

Here's what it looks like normally: http://i.imgur.com/QY1a1.png

Hockey Canada launches head injury app

Hockey Canada launches head injury app

The Canadian Press
Published Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 7:51AM EDT
Last Updated Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 7:52AM EDT

TORONTO -- Hockey Canada has launched a new smartphone app aimed at reducing brain injuries in the sport.

Available in both English and French, and with versions for adults and kids, the app includes medically approved information on everything from concussion symptoms to return-to-play protocol.

"You can have your phone on the bench -- it's that close," said Hockey Canada president Bob Nicholson. "It's right in the (coach or trainer's) hands."

In development for more than a year, the app is available for BlackBerry, iPhone and Android and can be downloaded for free from Hockey Canada's website, BlackBerry's App World, iTunes or the Google Play Store.

The app was a joint project with the Canadian Centre for Ethics and Sport, the Coaching Association of Canada and ThinkFirst Pensez d'Abord Canada. It was funded by a $1.5-million grant from the federal government.

One of the benefits of the app is that Hockey Canada has the ability to update it immediately with any new advances made in the industry. Nicholson was also touting it as a resource for not only coaches and parents, but young players as well.

"There are two different targets here," he said. "We're hopeful that coaches will have it on the bench and players will watch it in dressing rooms. With that, we're really trying to make sure that we get to everyone involved in the game in Canada."

The app was launched with an endorsement from Sidney Crosby, who missed significant chunks of the last two NHL seasons because of concussion-related symptoms. The Pittsburgh Penguins captain said he admires Hockey Canada's "commitment to educating families and players about all aspects of the game."

Nicholson recently became a vice-president with the International Ice Hockey Federation's executive council and believes the app has the potential to be useful around the world.

Hockey Canada doesn't have specific numbers on the amount of youth hockey players that suffer concussions each year.

"We just know that it is happening a lot," said Nicholson.

"Hopefully, this (app) is going to spread not just in Canada, but throughout the world," he added.

Do you guys expect that BB10 will get rooted? I know earlier versions of the Playbook OS had been, and the thing that had me excited is that the USB port on the Playbook was able to use USB drives for extra storage when rooted. I'm assuming the main reason the later versions have not been rooted would be lack of interest, because BB10 is around the corner anyway? I love my Playbook regardless, but it sure would become that much better if the storage were easily expandable. I even have a mini to full USB adaptor and USB drives ready to go if this happens.

Also my friend has an SII and when he puts it on silent the voice for incoming emails and text messages still goes off.
that's just plain weird. I don't see why that would be the case. Every android phone I've ever used has silenced notifications when I silence the rest of the phone.

BlackBerry 10 becomes only the Second mobile browser ever to pass FB RM Ring 1 Test

Quote:
Ringmark is a set of tests Facebook developed to challenge mobile browsers on basic standards: Can the browser access the device’s camera, does it have the software to run games or play music, etc.

The test suite starts with Ring 0 — most modern mobile web browsers clear that hurdle — and progresses to Ring 1 and Ring 2. Most mobile browsers don’t make it all the way through the Ring 1 tests, and even desktop web browsers have a hard time with some of the tests in Ring 2.

So far, only two mobile browsers have cleared Ring 1: Dolphin, a relatively obscure browser, and now the BlackBerry 10 browser. All this is, of course, part of RIM’s big plan to woo developers to BlackBerry 10, because more and better apps mean more and more satisfied users, at least theoretically.

BlackBerry App World update

Two days ago I read on CrackBerry.com that there was an update of BlackBerry App World and was wondering if anyone has been able to download it yet? I haven't seen the change log icon appear on my Bold 9780 and the update hasn't come yet when I resest App World by pressing ALT + RST. I'm thinking of doing a battery pull in a few days if I still don't get the update because in the past when doing that it's then showed when my Apps had a new version to download.

Not 100% sure on this. It's possible the App World update could be for OS 7+, but that's unlikely. Maybe it's only out for beta testers right now.
