RIP buddy, you were the best dog I could've ever asked for.
Condolences. I think you can take solace in the fact that he lived a good long life, even for a little guy (though I'm sure it doesn't make it any easier). Maybe this will make you feel a little better:

My heart goes out to you man. Sounds like you gave him a heck of a life, and you were there for him til the very end. I've heard that many dogs know when it's time to go, and they just lay down and drift to sleep. My eyes are legitimately welling up just thinking of the bond between you and your pooch, and for him to decide to go peacefully by your side...if that doesn't make a man cry then I don't know what will. God bless you, your family, and your dear dog.

Sorry to hear JRull. Never an easy thing man, at least you got to spend time with him in the end. I'm sure he planned for it to be that way, dogs just do certain things because they know to. Like Chuck said, they have that intuition which is what makes them (and your dog) awesome pets.

So sorry for your loss, JRull. Wish I could say more, but I do know your sorrow right now. Cherish your memories. Almost 4 years after losing my dog, who was 16, I can tell you that the memories remain strong. Remember to take care of yourself.

Wow... Reminds me of when I was a kid and my Guinea Pig died

A long time has passed but it was one of the worst nights of my life staying up all night listening to him cry knowing he was in pain

I cant imagine what it would be like to lose a dog that you have had that long... Im tearing up a lil myself

Very sorry to hear, sounds like you were a great owner

The licking thing tends to stop as they get older. I love pugs.

I'm so sorry. It is hard to lose a pet it is like losing a family member.

At least he is no longer suffering.

We went to a pug meet up for the Pug Rescue of New England... there were 100s.... pretty hilarious to see so many in one place.

Man, kids get old quick....One weekend they are asking you to go to the park to ride the swings, the next one is asking you for football jerseys for a modeling shoot and one is asking you for money for a bullet proof vest that he can wear for his police car ridealongs...Insane. I'm too young for this LOL

Went out today with the Bride to buy a new artificial Christmas tree. I swear it took less time and less arguing to name the kids.

Never say , 'I don't care'.

Even if its the truth.

I came home from work one night to find an artificial Christmas tree set up in the living room. That was a lot easier.

Exactly. The irony is that it seems women want us men to give a crap about stuff that we naturally don't care about, only so it hurts more when they disagree with our view and buy what they want anyway.

Good god. Ain't it the truth. And I'm only 22, I'm never getting married

When are women gonna get that "I don't care" in that situation really means "do whatever you wanna do because I just like spending time with you and it doesn't matter to me if our tree is made of toilet paper, we'll still have fun." They should just get that right away!

My dear boy, you obviously haven't been keeping company with the right females, is all.

Men are funny. I love sports, can't stand shopping, don't care about fashion, hate "chick flicks" (love war movies), am a massive history buff and Star Trek geek, and I didn't get married until I was 29. Men say they want women like me, but the vast majority of them are full of it.

One of my employees got married tonight. Naturally, my other employees felt it was necessary to buy me shots of Wild Turkey and bottles of beer. Thank God I escaped early.

In less than a month, an ex-employee of mine is getting married. Same story, except the wedding is at Red Hook Brewery and I have the next day off and am leaving the kid with my folks. Getting a bail money collection going now.
