No definitive update, but the writer alluded to Merrill's initial mid-November recovery time to be a little optimistic.
Sounds like he's maturing some, and that's definitely a positive thing.

-4 oof. Anyone here see this game? Just wondering if this was indicative of his play or if it was just bad luck or both. Thanks.

Game Report: Kelowna 3 Edmonton 2
1ST PERIOD
EDM S. Shmoorkoff (1) (C. Lazar) 4:38
KEL T. Baillie (6) (C. Heffley, M. Bowey) 6:37
KEL H. Nyberg (3) (Z. Franko) 7:30

2ND PERIOD
EDM T. Ewanyk (4) (K. Wilson, M. Moroz) 0:24

3RD PERIOD
KEL R. Chartier (5) (R. Stadel) 3:04

Edmonton
Laurent Brossoit 20/23

Kelowna
Jackson Whistle 25/27

Edmonton
1. Travis Ewanyk C - Ewanyk was his usual reliable self tonight. Penalty kill demon that just plays hard and keeps his own ice clean. Chipped in with a goal. Ewanyk has come a long way since being drafted in 2010. Had to over come a serious shoulder injury, but is now to the point where is he relied upon to shutdown top opposition and be a leader on a talented Oil Kings squad. Initially what I thought was a reach pick by the Oilers, might just pay dividends yet.
2. Stephen Shmoorkoff D - Tallied his 1st WHL goal tonight. It's taken awhile for Shmoorkoff to feel comfortable in his own skin at the WHL level but he played well tonight at both ends of the rink. With the scrambly play a lot of the Oil Kings veteran defenders had tonight, Shmoorkoff was one of the reliable ones tonight.

Kelowna
1. Tyson Baillie RW - At the rate the Rockets are winning games, either they will have to find a bonafide sniper or they will have to have Baillie come of age very quickly. Baillie is a highly touted 16 year old who is playing a lot better than his age should indicate. Has snipers hands and snipers menatlity to become a scorer in this league. It will be a treat to see how high the ceiling is for this player.
2. Damon Severson D - Was impressed on how Severson went into lockdown mode when the Rockets established a 3-2 lead that they would not relinquish. Severson did a great job of getting into lanes, blocking shots and breaking up passes. Even lead the team on a couple of dangerous rushes up the ice. Severson played well tonight and him playing an all purpose game allowed the Rockets to hold the lead and win the game.

Forgot to mention Kerfoot drew a penalty shot late in the first. He made a nice forehand backhand move but couldn't elevate the puck and was stopped. Also his first assist was nice. He faked a shot in the slot and then dropped the puck back to the point for the goal.

I only saw the 1st period and like 5 mins of the 2nd but Kerfoot looked good. He's definitely going to have to get stronger. The Russian team was all U-18 and he was getting pushed around pretty easily. Obviously he's still a long way off so it'll be interesting to see how he develops.

He's a big long shot, but he's got the offense.

He's going to Harvard (or Yale) next year, not sure which one. So he's likely to be there at least three maybe four years.

And I have to hate him for as long as he's at Harvard. They're our biggest rival.

Thomson, Boucher, Matteau all had a goal and assist tonight.

Matteau now with 8 pts in his last 6 games. Also he has 62 shots in 18 games.

Boucher with 9 goals 10 assists in 19 games. It took him 29 games last year to get 10 assists.

I get the feeling Matteau is going to be something special. I love the offense to go with the PIM's.

What is his size, weight etc?

I believe he's not particularly tall, 6-1 maybe topping out at 6-2. But he's already 200+ pounds unless I'm mistaken. Or maybe he was just close to 200.

Glad to hear that Matteau and Boucher continue to rip up their respective leagues. I hope Matteau keeps up his P/G pace all season and blossoms into a real offensive talent as a result of the increased confidence.

Pretty easy to be a PPG when you are suspended most of the time.

This is pretty much confirming how I described them after watching a Broncos game.

Graham can do it all and Scarlett is an excellent PP defenseman.

Also happy to see Boucher and Matteau progressing each and every day.

EDIT: just noticed. Did Coleman really get called for diving? It`s kind of hard to believe. Great FO% though.

Graham Black is tearing it up, he's really starting to look like a great pick. Late bloomer, but is he ever blooming!
