Blackhawks trying to kill our prospects... The HECK?!
Payback for that hit Smith got suspended for last (pre)season? Comes to mind, along with the Mursak injury....no love loss between these 2 groups. Hope Nyquist is ok.
I thought enforcers were supposed to stop these hits. Don't the griffins have a couple of them?
The griffins dont really have a real enforcer this year. Grant will fight but he stirs the pot more and is an agitator who fights. Evans is big and can scrap but not really an enforcer either. Amadio wasnt a good fighter but he would grab onto anyone and send a message that he'll at least try to kill you if youre playing dirty. Callahan has been getting scratched this year too
This griffins team has so much great young talent and they get three guys ran like that without consequence, its pretty embarrassing. Smith can handle himself and it was that **** Kyle Beach who he hates that got him but Nyquist is 5'11 and second in league scoring. Something shouldve been done
It will be nice, although I got to be honest Ouellet would have jumped in last night. It was worse that nobody responded, I would have liked to see it be Grant or Evans but there are other guys that could have at least showed push back. The second leading scorer in the league gets jacked and no response is pretty worthless. I am not even the biggest fighting guy but this is why it exists, they targeted our best players and somebody should have discouraged them from it. The first one was bad enough the second one had to be answered. In fact after who they got with the second one they should have got Leddy or Kruger and pretty much pounded one of them whether they wanted to go or not.

Yeah they got the win but sometimes even if they end up with an instigator and the loss that builds more team camaraderie that is actually better in the long run. Callahan, Grant or Evans shouldve been after one of their stars for sure.
But even guys like Sheahan, Ferraro and Aubry could have upped the physical play and took a few runs here or there as well.

I do think a healthy Nicastro probably steps up, but he was coming of a concussion. I thought he was on the few that I noticed picked up his physical play, especially after the Smith hit.
By the way on Nicastro. In a recent article I read about Chelios leaning towards coaching mlive's Peter Wallner had this in the comments as a follow up on the article.

A leftover nugget:
Chelios' most improved defenseman so far? He went with Max Nicastro, a rookie and the Red Wings second pick in 2008. He likes his progress to become instinctive with plays called on the ice.
Anyone have an update on Nyquist? I'm really worried about him.
Just posted on Twitter:
GrandRapids Griffins @griffinshockey
Good news: Gustav Nyquist traveled to Peoria with the team last night and will be a game-time decision tonight against the Rivermen.
I guess that's a good sign, shows it wasn't too serious. Hopefully they don't rush him back.
I think they should just let Nyquist sit if there is even just a little concern, but if he feels 100 percent then let him go, it is great to see he is a game time decision though.
McCollum is gonna be in net tonight, right? hes gotta have a strong game to compete with Mrazek who has blown him out of the water thus far.

Yeah he might. Hard to say with guys coming out of the NCAA. But with Nicastros size and play style I think hes gonna have to learn to start stepping up in those situations to get a real shot at the NHL
At the AHL level there is absolutley no reason not to have 1 6'4 240lb grocery stick that gets 1 shift a period and essentially earns a living as a hired gun. In todays NHL I understand not wanting to eat a roster spot but you cant have people taking liberties on young guys who are potential franchise players without getting retribution.
Whether that guy is playing in the Central league, the ECHL, or the Quebec fighting league we need to have someone that protects our investments.

I agree. And if youre not going to have that one guy you need to have a lot of toughness throughout the line up. The way I look at it is Grant, Callahan and Evans are the only guys who are a threat and none of those guys are a threat to real legit tough guys.
And one of Callahan and Grant usually dont dress
Nyquist is playing tonight though, thats good news
