With all due respect, I do think too that Toronto will have a tough year again this season. That first line center they've been dreaming about since the departure of Sundin might really be on the way. Toronto is on the verge of something really good. Fans have been really patient but with so many 1st round pick spoiled in the last 10 years. Patience will remain a virtue.

^true and if you go to Hockey's Future, they do have 2 potential star centers in Colborne and Kadri (at least they are listed as centers, where they end up playing on the Leafs is a different matter), and a potential star d-man in Rielly. with centers Barkov, Monahan and Lindholm available for the taking in presumably the top 5, if the Leafs pick there, i'd take one, and i'm a fan of d-men Ristolainen and Pulock. it's going to be real interesting to see where the Leafs end up picking and where the players will end up being ranked!

4- Toronto - Sean Monahan
5- Anaheim - Elias Lindholm
6- Floride - Rasmus Ristolainen
7- Ottawa - Hunter Shinkaruk
8- Dallas - Ryan Pulock
9- Colorado - Valery Nichushkin
10- Montreal - Jonathan Drouin
11- Calgary - Curtis Lazar
12- Nashville - Andre Burakowski
13- Phoenix - Max Domi
14- Tampa Bay - Josh Morrissey
15- Buffalo - Adam Erne
16- Edmonton - Zachary Fucale
17- Carolina - Kerby Rychel
18- San Jose - JT Compher
19- Philadelphia - Nikita Zadorov
20- Detroit - Robert Hagg
21- Washington - Darnell Nurse
22- New Jersey - Frederik Gauthier
23- Minnesota - Artturi Lehkonen
24- Chicago - Anthony Mantha
25- Pittsburgh - Ryan Kujawinski
26- Boston - Madison Bowey
27- Los Angeles (Columbus) - Jacob De La Rose
28- Vancouver - Bo Horvat
29- St-Louis - Steve Santini
30- Ny Rangers (Columbus) - Hudson Fasching
makes sense, then again, nobody is right or wrong. We don't even know what the order is going to be. That said, I really don't think Valery Nichushkin will end up that high. I thought there were better prospects from Russia who ended going much lower in recent years.

Overall picks make sense for most teams.

They have to forfeit either their 1st this year or next, and with a goalie like Fucale I just don‘t see how they could pass over him. It‘s not like it‘s such a big risk, you have him listed only 7 spots away @ 28.

I may be wrong.. but to me, it just makes more sense for them to pick according to need instead of adding another defender.

Overall, I really like the list. I agree with your view on forwards vs defenders, and their impact. Jones @ 4 works for me, I could even see him fall from top 5. Sure he‘s good, but there are just so many legit top 5 players this year that the expendable one to me would be the defender.
That would make sense, that said, I have had Jersey picking goalies for the last 2 or 3 years and they never ended up picking one in the first I thought they would have gone for Gibson or Vasilevski/Subban ... both ended unavailable because of Jersey making the SC ... but yeah it would make sense. I'm not really in love with any goalie this year in the first round so far. I also like Wedgewood long-term for them. Not that I think he's a superstart in the making but he's been very consistant over the years in Plymouth.

^i fear the Devils do to and that's why they passed on Gibson and Dansk in past drafts. i'm just not totally convinced that Wedgewood is the answer for them long term, just from what i have seen of him in the past. mind you, Columbus also passed on Gibson when they picked Boone Jenner...i like Jenner, but if i were Columbus picking at #37, and Gibson was still there, i'd have picked Gibson.

I dont think going for forwards should be the answer at all for Columbus, BPA every time.

you'd really stick Barkov on the 3rd line with Lowry? i'd try him top line at first, but he may need to go back to Euro land for more seasoning.

as things stand now, the Oilers would be nuts to pass on William Carrier if he were still available at #34. same with Andre Burakovsky. no way the Oil pass on these two guys and pick Jackson Houck.

^this is what i am hoping the Jackets do...they already have a good defence, signed a starting goalie, and lost Rick Nash. i'd draft forwards with these 4 picks!

You wouldnt prefer Compher, Zadorov or Carrier over Fasching? I think Zadorov would be a good 30th pick.

^i would prefer Columbus take all forwards with their first 4 picks, but somehow i can't see them doing that...but who knows? the Isles took all d-men the last draft!

I like this list alot, not sure of Jones gets past number two but other than that I can see the rest of the picks happening. Love Lazar going to NYI, he is my number one choice behind Mac and Jones.

^all in all, i like what both the Jackets and the Isles are doing...they have some good prospects coming, they both had good, high picks in this last draft and both teams will likely pick very high again. this appears to be a deep draft, but as we all know, that can change by draft time.

I'm not sure Zadorov has much offense in him. I know he has a good shot, so there's a chance there to develop, otherwise I see him more as a stay-at-home guy. I liked Määttä better last year, and I don't think Zadorov is as good. That's why I have him there, that said, he could rise.

Not a huge fan of either Burakovsky nor Kujawanski. I don't think Burakovsky is on the same level as recent Swedish prospects. I heard he played great at the Hlinka tournament but I have to question his consistency.

Kujawanski had a great week to start the season but outside of that I don't think he has done much to help himself. Size is there but I don't see a huge upside to his game so far.

I heard Ross MacLean, from ISS, say that Carrier was projected to go in mid-rounds at this point. More of a 4th round guy. May rise to an early 3rd or late 2nd. Houck has shown to have a solid all-around game and will likely turn out to be a solid defensive specialist with some offense to his game. Oilers may need a player like him down the road.

Barkov, Monahon or Jones IMO if leafs pick second..... Assuming the Avs go with BPA, even though they need Jones more then Mackinnon.

I would love a 1st like Center, but IMO BPA is the way to go in a draft. Drouin makes no sense. Not BPA and doesn't exactly fit a desperate need either.

Thanks!
he's 2nd in team scoring for the Q-leagues' Cape Breton at 17 years old, 35 points in 22 games says Hockey DB...i'm curious, i don't see him listed on anyone's 1st round mocks, as to what they don't see in this guy? he even has decent size at 6' 205.

He is absolutely a 1st rounder. I have him at 21st in my mock draft.

I expect Drouin to go top 10, but 2nd overall is just crazy especially when Barkov, Lindholm and Monahan are still on the board so Toronto would get their #1 center they've been looking for. Lindholm is way too low at #7 on your list, I really think if someone has a good chance to go 3rd or 2nd it's lindholm.

If the leafs had 2nd pick and Colorado had the 1st. Either Colorado would select Jones or leafs trade up for the pick to draft Mackinnon.
