I heard Aaron Sims after the Admirals game say that Hamilton's Blake Geoffrion was in surgery after hitting his head on the ice at the Bell Centre after a check. Any news on him?
Geoffrion suffered a depressed skull fracture last night. He had successful surgery and is stable, but in ICU according to the latest update. Blake is expected to make a full recovery.
Blake may no longer be a Predator, but he certainly is a member of our local community. Let's keep him in our thoughts today.
Let me say this, HE SKATED OFF THE ICE WITH A CAVED IN SKULL. If it was any mortal person they would be laying on the ice thinking, 'Such a cold place to die.'
The video is not that bad. Looks like a normal fall with a bit of hangtime.
All I care about is will he recover and it sounds like he will.
Thanks for the heads up about the video, decided to now watch it and I concur, looks normal but sad to hear that he's so hurt. Hoping for a quick recovery!

Two points.
1) He was beginning to get traction. He was tied for 1st in scoring for the Bulldogs. Not bad for the AHL+
2) Let's see, Morenz died from complication of a broken leg playing in Montreal. Boom-Boom nearly died in a training accident training for hockey in Montreal, and now Blake caves his skull in playing hockey in Montreal.

Sad point, he was continuing a family tradition.
Counter point with that tradition however is: Morenz died, Boom-Boom nearly died and Blake caves his skull in, manages to still get up and skate off the ice.

Yeah, but I would put Blake in the NEARLY DIED category. One odd jostle and we are mourning with a RIP Blake Geoffrion thread.
Looks like Blake's injury was very serious and his dad said he is lucky to be alive. He skated off the ice but afterwards it got worse to where he had convulsions and they had to have surgery. Then he had swelling and were worried about brain damage. He is doing well now though.
I will be pleasantly surprised if he ever plays professional hockey again.
The potential consequences of adding even a single concusssion on top of the brain injury he's already suffered I would think would be too much for a guy who at best was likely to have a borderline 3rd/4th line career.
Heard on the radio this morning his dad stated to Pete Weber that a skate caught Blake's head cutting out a half dollar size piece of his skull. Ouch.
the skate didnt actually cut out the skull, but the impact cracked and depressed the skull, and the treatment of that is to remove the bone and replace it with a titanium plate.
he'll be like Cousin Eddie now... whenever the microwave runs he'll piss himself and forget his name for about 30 minutes...
Read the article this morning, and am so happy he is recovering! Scary stuff! No one should be making any form of jokes about this as this poor kid was convulsing and could have died! I know hockey careers are not everything, but it would be so unfortunate if Blake can not play hockey again!
I wish him a full recovery and if he does get on the ice again, with his concussion history, no more hits to the head!

um, the joke was about National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, its not like Blake would actually do any of that.... sheesh... lighten up Francis...
