I think poise has something to do with it, so I put an 87 overall player with 90 poise over a 90 overall player with like 75 poise, and it seems to work out very well.

I'm simulating the 2013-14 season as Detroit right now, and LA just sent Mike Richards down to the AHL.

Did I claim him on waivers? No. For some reason he didn't have to go through waivers. It didn't give me the option to claim him and no one else did.

After a few test BaGM's with Columbus and Phoenix I am now really satisfied with the current one I am playing. (Modified sliders, All star AI, EA Rosters). My team is, of course, the Canadiens.

So we are 63 games into the 12-13 season, of which I have played ca 20 games and simulated the rest. I am third in the conference. The day before the trade deadline San Jose (who are 14th in the West) approached me with a deal I couldn't refuse.

MTL: Avtsin, 2013 1st Rd Pick (Currently 26th), Lefebvre
SJS: Clowe, Murray

Clowe and Murray are both UFA's, San Jose doesn't have a 1st round pick since they traded that to Ottawa for Alfredsson at the start of the season (Ottawa will most likely have two top 15 picks). Sharks also have some serious cap issues apparently since Logan Couture has been playing in the AHL all season (leading it in both goals and scoring).

My lines now are

Pacioretty-Plekanec-Bourque
Clowe-Eller-Cole
Gomez-Desharnais-Gionta
Prust-White-Armstrong

Markov-Subban
Gorges-Murray
Kaberle-Diaz

Price
Budaj

Cole and Eller have already managed to score over 20 goals, with pretty much the rest of the top 6 being close to it. Carey Price has been phenomenal in the net. Price leads the league in wins, save percentage (.938), and shutouts (9).

Trying to trade Gionta at the trade deadline though, or at the draft since he still has some value.

Am I the only one who repetedly have to trade my best/most expensive players in order to fit the newly aquired stars/prospects under the cap?

My former players fill the first lines of the teams across the league..

Started a Winnipeg Fantasy Draft and am in my third season. This is my favorite team I have ever built/play with. I love the guys on this team and have so much fun playing games with this team I sim way less than normal.

I'm 54 games into the season and have a record of 36-15-3 which on the surface doesn't seem too impressive, but that's largely because Markstrom has been stinking it up for me (have Gibson who should be ready in a year or two though). Currently 2nd in the league, 1st in GF (by 22 goals, 3.76 GF/GP) and 7th in GAA.

The team is meshing offensively unlike any other I've ever built though... check out stats thus far:

Bartschi: 54 GP 17 G 51 A 68 P
Malkin: 54 GP 36 G 32 A 68 P
RNH: 54 GP 16 G 36 A 52 P
Ryan: 54 GP 22 G 29 A 51 P
JvR: 54 GP 13 G 24 A 37 P
Etem: 54 GP 16 G 20 A 36 P

That's my top 6 and my D isn't doing bad either:

Bogosian: 54 GP 6 G 27 A 33 P
Johnson: 54 GP 4 G 26 A 30 P
Morissey: 54 GP 5 G 20 A 25 P
Rundblad: 54 GP 10 G 13 A 23 P

Lineup:

Bartschi (87) - Malkin (91) - Ryan (85)
JvR (86) - RNH (88) - Etem (88)
Rattie (80) - Brassard (83) - Iginla (84)
Westin (79) - Lindberg (79) - Downie (80)

Rundblad (80) - Bogosian (87)
Elliott (77) - Morissey (84)
Kulikov (84) - Johnson (86)

Markstrom (85)
FPW (81)

Best part of this is it's only my 3rd year so almost all these guys have room to improve. On top of that I have a bunch of core players locked into great contracts:

Malkin @ 9.5M for 8 years
RNH @ 7.25M for 8 years
JvR @ $4.25M for 3 years
Johnson @ 4.355 for 3 years
Elliott at $1.85M for 6 years
Kulikov @ $4M for 6 years
Rundblad @ $3.450 for 8 years
Bogosian at $5.65M for 8 years
Markstrom @ $5.15 for 6 years

Have a great group of young guys coming up too, though I don't want to make too many adjustments to my roster if things keep going like this.

Lazar (4.5* 74 OVR)
Mackinnon (5* 63 OVR)
Faksa (4.5* 63 OVR)
Reinhart (4.5* 60 OVR)
Schwratz (4* 71 OVR)
Shinkaruk (4.5* 63 OVR)
Teubert (4* 79 OVR)
Ellis (4* 77 OVR)
Gormley (4.5* 75 OVR)
Petrovic (4* 73 OVR)
Marincin (4* 70 OVR)
Morrow (4* 69 OVR)
Hamilton (4* 69 OVR)
Ekblad (4.5* 62 OVR)
Dumba (4* 60 OVR)
Pouliot (4* 58 OVR)
Gibson (4.5* 79 OVR)
Pickard (4* 68 OVR)

Not sure what I'll do long term as I'm pretty happy with my team and there will be some good young guys coming up...

EA's really has to fix their fantasy draft so AI GMs actually take prospects. It's annoying how if I wanted to, I could just take every 4 and a half/ 5 star prospect, play them in the NHL and sim 2 years. Then my team would be beast(all high 80s and 90s). EA has to get an update in, where in the first 5-10 rounds 4 & 1/2 and 5 star prospect will get drafted, then in 10-20 3 & 1/2 and 4 stars, an so forth...

Agreed. At least in NHL 12 potential was distributed fairly realistically across the board and picks could bust or impress. Seems too easy in 13 IMO...

Majority of my prospects I either a) traded picks for, b) signed in FA, or c) drafted.

Only prospects I picked up in the fantasy draft were Ellis, Gormley, Elliott, and Etem.

Played almost the whole day today LOL, great Sunday.

So 1 hour before the trade deadline Montreal made a shock move when I traded my captain Gionta to Detroit for Pulkkinen straight up. I had to save some cap if I wanted to have any opportunity to resign Subban, Clowe and maybe Murray for next season.

Rest of March MTL played a bit above .500 hockey but in the last ten we played 7-3-1 which meant we finished with 104 points and the 1st overall in the league (tied on points with Pittsburgh and Vancouver but we had more ROW's). Price posted 10 shutouts (tied with Halak) and 41 wins and he should win the Vezina. Cole was a huge part of the late season form and he ended with 34 goals.

First round of the Playoff I face the Maple Leafs. They won the first 3 games, 2 in OT. I clawed back though and game 7 ended 8-6 to Montreal in the Bell Centre. Clowe scored a hat trick in that game.

The next round was easy. Montreal swept the Rangers 4-0. We had a advantage over them the whole regular season as well.

Now we are in the conference finals against Penguins, who beat Flyers 4-3 and then Jets 4-3. Game 1 went to Penguins 3-1 but Game 2 to Canadiens 6-4.

In the western finals it is Red Wings and Blue Jackets (CBJ are leading 2-0).

2015-16 Winnipeg Jets Season Preview

Off-season means UFA for Iginla, Ryan and RFA for a handful of players including Bartschi, Etem, Teubert, and others.

Key Signings and Releases

Re-signed Sven Bartschi to a 7 year deal at $9M per year.
Re-signed Bobby Ryan to a 8 year deal at $5.75M per year.
Released Jarome Iginla (cap casualty).
Tendered Qualifying Offers to Teubert, Westin, Lindberg, Etem, Gormley, and Petrovic as I need to do some trades to attempt to re-sign them.

Brassard, Teubert, Petrovic, Johnson, and Etem will probably all be traded away in order to remain under the cap.

Projected Lineup:

Bartschi (90) - Malkin (92) - Ryan (87)
JvR (86) - RNH (89) - Rattie (82)
Schwartz (76) - Lazar (78) - Downie (80)
Torres (75) - Lindberg (78) - Westin (79)

Morrissey (88) - Bogosian (88)
Rundblad (84) - Elliott (80)
Ellis (81) - Kulikov (85)

Markstrom (89)
Gibson (82)

If I trade away Johnson and Brassard I might have enough to re-sign Etem which would drastically improve my lineup by bumping Rattie to L3, Schwartz to L4.

At the end of the regular season I didn't think he could do any better, but he stepped it up even more in playoffs and led us to a cup! He went 16-5 with a 1.37 GAA, a 95.5% save with 7 shutouts.

At the end of the year he won: the Hart, Calder, Conn Smythe, Vezina, Jennings, and the Lindsay..wow. Again, that was his rookie year! Morrisey also won the Norris, while Parise won the Lady Byng! We cleaned house this year, wow.
Next season was a very good season for us, but not as good as last year. Mackinnon and Cadorette won awards this year, with Mackinnon getting the Hart and Cadorette winning the Vezina, Jennings, and the Lindsay again. With Kovalchuk retiring I tried to get a good top 6 forward in free agency, but the best I could get was a 78 sniper, he was solid though.

Line up:

Z. Parise, 90 ply - N. Mackinnon, 86 ply (A) - D. Bobkov, 81 pwf
A. Sammuelson, 78 snp - A. Anisimov, 85 ply - B. Dubinsky, 83 twf
T. Jokinen, 79 grn - A. Rossignol, 81 twf - M. Dagostini, 79 snp
T. Kristiansen, 77 pwf - R. Johansen, 79 ply - B. Ranford, 78 twf

J. Morrisey, 89 ofd (A) - R. Murray, 88 twd (C)
J. Johnson, 84 ofd - J. Macmurchy, 81 tgh
J. Asham, 80 dfd - Y. Auvitu, 81 twd

P. Cadorette, 88 hyb
S. Peltonen, 80 hyb

Cadorette went 50-13-3 with, once again, a 1.70 GAA and a 94.1% save with ... 16 shutouts! He was unbelieveable again. Kept the good play goin into playoffs too, went 10-3-4 with a 1.69 GAA and a 94.4% save and 5 shutouts! He won the Vezina, Jennings, and the Lindsay.

My teams top 5 for points:
Mackinnon - 38g 59a 97pts +47
Parise - 24g 71a 95pts +43
Bobkov - 35g 35a 70pts +40
Samuelsen - 38g 24a 68pts +8
Anisimov - 22g 36a 58pts +11

Wow, the top 3 of the 2022 draft were all goalies..

1. Georges Lavasseur - 72, 5 star green.

2. Lasse Santavuori - 71, 5 star yellow.

3. Gordie Crosby - 72, 4 1/2 star yellow.

I already finished the year after their draft year, and all 3 of them had huuge overall upgrades. Lavasseur jumped from a 72 to a 91! He's already an elite goalie and he's only 20.. Santavuori and Crosby both jumped up to 85s and they're both starting goalies.

Oh boy he must be one hell of a goalie, i mean he has Gordie Howe's and Sidney Crosby's skills combined as a goalie.

Heading into the 2019-20 season, the New Jersey Devils are the reigning Stanley Cup Champions after defeating the Nashville Predators in 7 games last season. During the Finals last season, New Jersey miraculously found a way to come back after losing the first 3 games, and won the cup in double overtime.

Reports says that three of the New Jersey Devil players; Jonathan Drouin, Nathan MacKinnon, and Zachary Fucale, got matching tattoos on their chest after the game. The three decided to get the tattoos to commemorate finishing their journey from playing as 16 year olds on the Halifax Mooseheads, to being drafted in the first round of the 2013 draft by New Jersey, to finally winning hockey's holy grail.

Since the 2013 draft, the New Jersey Devils have made 13 picks in the first round.

None

2019:

For the first 3 drafts, I traded older players and any pick that wasn't my 1st and stocked up on 1sts. For the 2015 1st overall pick, I got that in 2013 thinking it was for a 2014 pick, luckily it worked out and I got something good out of it.

Right. I mean in the entry draft as you progress into your dynasty. I know there are plenty of guys early on, but I'm in 2022 and it seems like every high-end D-man in the draft is a TWD or 6'8+ DFD.

Yeah they can. The stars are only an estimate of their potential. The same way that they can be 3.5 yellow stars and end up busting, they can also overachieve and become very good players. Sam Fioretti is 3.5 yellow stars and is regularly putting up 70 points on my team. He's at 86 overall right now.

New Jersey held the 15th overall pick in this draft. Seeing as there was nobody that they liked around that spot, they made a trade.

To Columbus: 2020 1st (15th)
To New Jersey: 2021 1st, 2021 3rd

This guy is a top-3 pick on name alone.

It's like getting a prospect named Chuck Norris.

Somehow Derek Stepan has become a really bad player, as having 1+1 points in 18 games and -13 (team low; I'm second in a conference) rating. I think I will trade him. I definitely need a dman as I have only 13 signed defenseman and some games ago I had four of them on injury list, meaning that three d-man spots were filled with a forward.

One option is trade with Canadiens. In that trade I could get Louis Leblanc and Jarred Tinordi for Stepan and pick. How good Leblanc and Tinordi will be? Or should I wait if Stepan gets his came going?
