Roberto would be considered a band-aid solution to the problems in Toronto. He would push them to compete for the eighth spot in the conference and that's as far as it goes for Luongo. Toronto would be drafting in mediocre positions for the next couple of years and when Roberto declines even further, they will be stuck in the same position.

He wasn't able to get Vancouver or Florida into the playoffs all on his own and there's no reason to think he could do just that for the Leafs.
Wrong! He did so for the 2006/2007 Vancouver Canucks.

That year he played 76 games, won 47 of them while getting no goal support. Was nominated for the Hart & Vezina. That year in the playoffs he put up a 1.77 gaa & .941 Sv%

There is a reason why this picture was made:

No. His value hinges on if he has it in him to completely win back the starter position.

what signs of decline are you referring to? you make it sound like Luongo had a bad year or something.

He's unrestricted in 2, sorry, less than 2 seasons. He could walk for nothing, and you'd have used Kessel as nothing more than a band-aid.

And where is Luongo's noticeable signs of decline? we won a 2nd pres trophy with him as the #1. He made a lot of big, timely saves. Schneider has been awesome since the day we drafted him, he was due more games - it had nothing to do with Luongo. If you really watched the Canucks in the playoffs, you'd have seen the team have injury issues, and struggle. They needed a change, why not throw Schnieder in? Pretty obvious his play had earned him a playoff start. oh, and Big surprise! they played better with Daniel in the lineup.

you base Luongo's value on 1 round of playoffs

Ok, what if Schneider stinks and Luongo is just a bit better so he gets more games?

Does that make Luongo more valuable than if he plays lights out for 35 games behind Schneider (who also plays lights out)?

Your logic is seriously flawed.

I think there is a very large myth in the east about Roberto Luongo. Of course there is the absolutely ridiculous assertions that his play is in the decline which anyone who paid attention to the Canucks' second half of the last season would know is incorrect. That isn't worth my time, what I want to clear up is that Luongo in no way, shape, or form "lost" his job last year.

He no more lost his job, than Kovalchuk lost his job in Atlanta. At no point last year was the phrase "I don't think his game is good enough for the team to move forward with him" a consideration aside from perhaps a couple zealous fans. The Canucks decided to go with the younger option who they believe is just as good although he still has much to prove. Luongo's play is not the reason he is being moved, Schneider's play, and situation (age/contract), are the reasons the Canucks feel they have the luxury to move an elite goaltender, and you are kidding yourself if you believe him to be anything else, to attempt and patch other holes on the team.
