He is free to leave his current assistant coach job in Indiana any time he wants if it meant he'd get the head coaching job?

The Lakers would have to get permission to speak to Shaw and it wouldn't come cheap considering how respected he is in Indy and its already weeks into the season.

@Chris_Broussard: Lakers conducted telephone interview with Mike D'Antoni Saturday afternoon, source says. Will interview Mike Dunleavy tomorrow.

@Chris_Broussard: Phil remains top choice but his demands in today's meeting were steep: travel restrictions 4 road games, & increased say in bball decisions

what does Broussard mean by travel restrictions? Phil won't coach in some of the road games?

Yeah. I have also read in some reports that his health may not be as great as it is made to sound in others.

It's either that or its something he thinks will become a concern, like can he really do long flights with his hip issues and such?

Just heard on the JT The Brick show (Coming from Mike Bresnahan):

Mike Bresnahan ‏@Mike_Bresnahan
Mike D'Antoni signed a four-year deal with the Lakers. Phil Jackson was "asking for the moon," accoring to source familiar w/ the situation.

Marc Stein confirms....

Quote:
@ESPNSteinLine: Says one source of LA Times report that Mike D'Antoni will coach Lakers: "Yes ... just happened."
IMO, not a good move for the Lakers. Should have given Phil whatever he wanted.

This will be great for Nash when he comes back but they were already struggling defensively and this should make the defense even worse.

Good news for the offense, bad news for the defense.

4 year deal, isn't that what Mike Brown got too?

Wonder if the LA crowd will still chant they want Phil...
