It's amazing how far I've come during the negotiation. I went from fairly pro players to as pro owners as possible. This is just getting ridiculous. The PA keeps asking for more and more every time
I was really getting a bit hopeful that we would see hockey this year, I mean they've been meeting a significant amount this week, and it all gets submarined.
I don't feel the players should "just take was the NHL tells them" but at some point then need to stop pretending they can "win" this, because that's a fallacy.
wow! i hadn't heard about the NHLPA wanting a full seasons pay for 3/4 of a season's work, lol... seriously?! i almost think that is has to be a rumor, cause not even professional athletes could be *that* stupid... right? i know we're not exactly dealing with rocket scientists here, but surely to god they aren't that delusional?

Yeah, and Whitney needs to stop retweeting these lame anti-owner messages. He's been annoying on twitter about the whole lockout.
Lebrun or Lavoie just tweeted the two reasonable men, Fehr & Daly, are going to meet later to discuss when they will meet again, which would likely be next week.

I love how this fiction keeps spreading. Daly has thrown way more jabs at the PA than Bettman. It's his job to do the legwork, just like it's Steve Fehr's job. They're talking because they must talk, Gary and Donald have constituents to manage.
If you really want to know how the talks are proceeding, go take a peek at that unethical ******* Alan Walsh's twitter. If hes throwing hand grenades, talks are bad. If not, ok/good. I would take a wild stab that someone in the NHLPA has told him to tone it down.
I don't understand the players position anymore. I thought they wanted a guarantee for every cent of the contracts they signed? Looks like the league has offered them that, with interest, and they still want more?
Quote:
The players' proposal focuses not only on protection of the $1.883B they received last year, but guaranteed annual increases regardless of revenue growth or decline
Bettman needs to come out with a final offer and say this will be out final offer until June 2013. If this deal is rejected we will begin the process of recruiting and signing replacement players who will all be given contracts through the 2013-2014 season. After the 2014 season, over 75% of current contracts will have expired and that will give both the league and the PA much needed flexibility.
Make them know they're sitting for 2 full seasons, and refuse to negotiate from December on to June.
We are still months away before they cancel the season. In 1995 a deal wasn't done until January 11.
They better not intend to have another joke season like that. It was pure bs starting a season at that point and terrible for the fans that had to sit through 48 poorly played games and a playoffs that year. By players dogtired, unprepared, and that played way too many games in a short period of time.

I don't think the NHL should bother with that short of a season either. At this point if I was in the NHL's shoes I would put a hard Nov. 30 date for finalizing a deal. If it's not done by then, cancel the season. No sense in dragging this nonsense out.

A half season is a marketing joke from a league that knows playoffs is a big interest draw. But from a fan standpoint I don't want to put up with crap like that when all the games look like two clubs falling all over each other. That season was horrible from a fan standpoint. Course it was smack dab in the bad hockey era where every hold was a good hold. The NHL game was deplorable in 94.

I sure hope we dont do a half season either...the 90's were the dark days of hockey indubitably
if sportsnet picked up the rest of the barrons games i could live without a season. if we have to live with a couple oil kings games on a crap shaw feed and a world jr tourny then i will have a huge issue and way to much spare time in the dead of winter. i hope that both sides realize that people will gladly spend the 3.3 billion they are fighting over on other things if they are forced to especally in major markets where there is competition for sponsership dollars and other major sporting events to attend.
I know I'm not the only one, but I'm getting to the point that I almost want Bettman to call the season just to see the players stunned at the announcement and have them realize what they just threw away.

same, and then there'd be no suspense. I think the players think there still will be a 50+ game season.
