I feel like the Devils could use some more depth at wing especially with their players getting older. I was hoping they would go after Andrei Kostitsyn but he's gone now. What would it take for the Devils to acquire MacArthur from the Leafs? I know for a fact that most Leaf fans want to move MacArthur out for one of the kids to play (Kadri, Frattin, etc).
MacArthur - two straight twenty goal seasons. when he's hot, he's hot. tends to score in bunches. can be chippy and gritty when he wants to but is pretty inconsistent in that department. will fight. not good enough defensively for third line duty but is a solid producer when playing on the second line. wicked slap shot.
I'm not a huge Devils fan, but their lineup would look something like this assuming that no forwards are traded:
Kovalchuk - Zajac - Elias
MacArthur - Henrique - Clarkson
Zubrus - Josefson - Butler
Carter - Gionta - Bernier

What would it take your asking to acquire MacArthur a Leaf player. Well since your a Leaf fan maybe you should be able to answer that question better than us.
This is a different way of an attempt to getting rid of MacArthur i must say.

I'd give up Volchenkov, but its unlikely he waives. It's basically him or Tallinder that are expendable, especially if you're looking for defense (which I assume you are)

4 more years at 4.25? there better be a prospect or 2nd rounder coming with him especially with better guys on the ufa market like regehr
I really don't have any particular interest in MacArthur. We're so thin at forward, I'd take a flyer on him for a defenseman (Tallinder), or defensive prospect (which we have tons of). But he's not someone I would actively seek out.
MacArthur/Tallinder swap or MacArthur for Burlon + mid pick is the highest I'd go.
Thought we went through this already with Volch or a pick being the value. Personally I would love Volch as he would work amazing in a Carlye type system my only question is his durability. (The injury in the KHL has not really helped his case.)
the player i think burke would be most interested in is clarkson, even if he needed to add. leafs need to add a little more grit to the lineup. clarkson would be perfect on our 3rd line.

Could work with both being UFA at end of year. If New Jersey thinks Clarkson will walk and they can sign MacA might work but I think Clarkson will resign.

no you are not and actually a volchinkov phaneuf pair is enticing but the length of the deal is not
It makes no sense for the leafs to ask for Volchenkov. Defence is already set for this year and with the depth of the D in the system it doesnt make sense for Volchenkov to be here for another four years at over 4 million. A second round pick would be adequate for CMac.

If the Leafs acquired Luongo, I'm sure a dman would be involved in a deal.
Than if the Leafs peddled Reimer they could add a dman in that deal as well.
Volchenkov could be needed at that time. His style of play is surely needed anyways.

Clarkson is the 1st name i think of when the Devils come up. Not sure if he is available...but he is on my wish list.
Clarkie wont be available. Im basically 100% sure he will take a discount to stay in NJD.
Merrill also insnt available for obvious reasons.
I would do Volch/Tallinder plus a prospect for MacArthuer
I know his Dad very well and David used to say how much he wantex to play in TO...i am sure that has changed as NJ is a class org. and have treated him well. Still...love the guys game.
