I have no interest in Clarke MacArthur. Put up points on a good team and maybe he'll be worth looking at.

I can dig it.
Don't expect Volchenkov to play top pairing minutes, to be honest. Pretty overrated by most people here, he's a defensive specialist nothing more, best suited for a third pairing role while playing alot of penalty kill.

Burke should've traded Kaberle for him while he had the chance.

He just loves the team. Their were reports that he was crying the night of the Kovy trade, because rumors were he was going the other way.

All around good guy on and off the ice here

Yes I think he is the odd man out but he has the NTC/NMC I forget which.

Devils do not have any flashy D. In a perfect world we'd look like

Larsson-Salvador
Zidlicky-Greene
Tallinder-Fayne
Harrold - Volchenkov

Harrold signed a 1 way deal I believe

our top 6 forwards group will probably be (barring a season).

Kovalchuk-Zajac-Zubrus
Elias-Henrique-Clarkson

Even though we have Bernier, Carter, Gionta, Barch, Josefson, and Janssen we could use maybe 3rd liners with good puck possession ability.

i wouldnt think he would be available. i just think he would be the player on the devils that burke would have the most interest in. i cant really see much interest in more defenseman.

our defense is something like;

phaneuf -gunnarson
liles-komisarek
gardiner-holzer/franson

sure tallinder/volchenkov would be useful but not really at the expense of macarthur irrespective of what the value is. with the amount of ufa the devils have i dont see a reason why they wouldnt be able to keep clarkson.

None of this appeals to New Jersey. Fayne alone is a non-starter.

Parise stated he wanted to stay in NJ and I thought he was really going to stay. You just never know what's going to happen once they hit free agency. Clarkson signing with Toronto to play home wouldn't surprise me one bit. That'd be a big loss for NJD, he's the epitome of 3rd line player.

Not to get into the Parise crap, he put on a show. He had it set in his mind him and Suter were going to MIN, he made it look good.

Clarkson I firmly believe will not leave. Zach I was iffy on but I have met David (Player meet and greet) and he seems to love it here

After losing Parise and with plenty of free agents to sign next year, Devils need to give a positive image of their franchise. Devils re-signing Clarkson is a must do to avoid a vicious circle, in my opinion.

Clarkson is the last player that would be on his way out New Jersey. Not only has he stated how much he loves the team and organization, Lou loves the guy as well. Unless Clarkson demands way more than Lou is willing to pay than he wont be leaving, and I dont see that happening.

Fayne isn't leaving either. He just got re-signed on a great contract and is a prototypical Devils defenseman. Merril also isnt leaving... Simply put, as I said in my first post, I dont see the Devils having interest in MacArthur unless they could get him in a steal with a late round pick which wont happen.

Trading for Volchenkov seems to be just too much like acquiring Mike Komisarek all over again. Too similar a player and too many years.

Maybe Tallinder... or maybe just a pick / prospect if the Leafs need to move a body to start the year.

Volch and Phaneuf would be terrible, not a mobile enough pairing.

Not interested. I'm personally not fond of Clarke MacArthur either. I think there's a lot more players that we could possibly get for Tallinder that may be more appealing. Even on the Leafs there's a couple younger guys I would prefer over MacArthur, and it doesn't help that MacArthur is a UFA either.

Merrill won't be moved. I would be shocked. The Devils also cannot move a first because of the looming Kovalchuk penalty.

He might be a fit like Poni was, but the Leafs fans aren't going to like the price we got Poni for.

He speaks in glowing terms about Lou and DeBoer, and both of them praise him right back. When there were nonsense rumours that he had demanded a trade (invented by Nick Kypreos), Clarkson not only refuted them point blank, he went further and said unprovoked that he wants to be a lifetime Devil.

Not really. Fair value, just Devils have no reason to part with either piece in that deal. Fayne is going nowhere and the Devils are definitely holding onto Severson. The pieces coming back aren't enticing to the Devils either.

Highly doubt MacArthur can play the role Poni did. Poni was the powerforward we needed on our 3rd line, MacArthur does not play the same style. Even if MacArthur wanted to play that style, Poni has least 25+ pounds on MacArthur, he wont be nearly as effective. The price Leaf fans would want for MacArthur is way more than the Devils should pay for the role he would play on our team.

I wouldn't trade Fayne for MacArthur and the rights to Cody Franson as it is. I do like Franson and think he is better than alot of people have him pegged to be but Fayne is quietly such a solid Dman for the Devils that just signed a great contract. Add to the fact that Severson has alot of potential, especially considering where he was picked and the fact that he plays on the same team that brought up Weber, and I wouldn't make this deal. I know we have an abundance of Dman but these are two I'd like to hang on too.

Ya, Severson is giving the Devils no reason to trade him right now. Fayne is a young, solid positional defenceman who is very steady when paired with Greene. He also just re-signed this past summer. No way he gets traded for the package that was proposed.

MacArthur for Volchenkov is surprisingly good sounding for both if Volch was a bit cheaper and could be a 2nd pair guy.
