Every team needs a guy like that, a guy that can play solid D and get the puck out of his own zone with smart and quick reads. Having not seen him in juniors I have heard that his skating maybe an issue, so I'd assume that it's safe to say that Smid is much more mobile than Musil is.
Definitely. Musil isn't a bad skater by any means, but he's not as mobile as Smid. I don't know how much I'd rely on him to move the puck out of the zone though. His outlet pass isn't as crisp as I'd like it to be. IMO, he'll basically be a much smarter, better skating version of what everyone was hoping Plante ideally might be able to be when we drafted him. Big, strong, reliable, and extremely good defensively.

Pair him up with one of Schultz, Petry, or Marincin and we've got a solid pairing.

As far as Oilers prospects go, Ewanyk was +2 with an assist a couple minors, Musil is still pointless for the Oil Kings and was -2, and Moroz was scratched with an upper body injury (which may keep him out of the Subway Series as well).
Glad to see them pull out another victory after the loss to Kelowna. The goals aren't coming as easily as they did last year but the team is finally coming together.

To be fair, he was putting up points because he was playing lots of PP on a very bad team. Has he looked ok otherwise?

Yeah judging Musil on points is a pretty foolish game, since they've been on the road since he's been acquired I've only seen him in one game. And he looked fine, strong, and playing a simple game very well.
However any insight on his play away from the puck?
Not really a strong point. He is an offensive player and is used in all of those situations, top line, first unit pp etc. He doesnt play on the pk at all really. I dont think he is bad defensively, but he isnt big or particularly strong, so he is pretty much a top six guy unless he reinvents himself, but I dont know why anyone would want him to, he is probably the best player (offensive) on the team.
So i live in Calgary; I was taking the train home from work this evening and the Oil Kings bus was parked at SAIT next to the arena. Tomorrow they play in PA which is northern SK. Anyone know why there bus is in Calgary at the moment?

They play at home tomorrow. So that makes it more puzzling. They must of rented it out to another Edmonton sports team.

Ah this makes sense. There are a ton of tournaments in Calgary this weekend. The midget 15 teams (top 15 year olds that didn't make AAA) and I think a midget AA tournament.

SAIT is playing NAIT tonight, NAIT is just using the Oil Kings bus.
