For Galchenyuk personally, his size is not an issue at all, 6'0.5" and 194 lbs is already solid, and he's likely to bulk up significantly over the coming years, and maybe even grow a touch height wise. Again, just a pet peeve of mine that you often see people thinking their prospects with average builds will turn into a Backes, Clowe, etc. body type.
I'm sure he's put on weight since that reading was taken and I suspect he's over 200 lbs by now.

I agree. he should tear up the OHL and lets see how he does at the WJC

Galchenyuk will be playing center when he joins the Habs lineup. Any Habs fan knows why we drafted Gally. It was because we were looking for a future top line center.
Gally will and i repeat will NOT be playing the wing in the NHL.

Am I crazy for thinking Galchenyuk isn't so long it can't be spelled out? Kid is really talented and plays very hard.

Well if topdog from hfboards says it, it has to be true!

There's actually a pretty good chance he plays wing at least for a brief stint while he gets used to the NHL.

I think he'll play C on the 3rd and wing when he gets his opportunities on the 2nd line.

Its either the guy thinks he is Marc Bergevin or topdog is Bergevin himself.. The odds are on the first option though..

I think he'll be NHL ready in 2013, he'll likely slot in beside Plex and Gionta as the 2LW. Plekanec would be a great mentor for improving his all-round game

That and Pleks can probably help him improve his skating (acceleration) a little.

You don't know that for a fact.

Long-term, no question the Habs want Galchenyuk at center. But if there ever was hockey this season, and Galchenyuk looked ready, i could easily see the Habs using him on the wing and keeping Desharnais, Plekanec and Eller as our top 3 centers for now.

Wait, so he will and will not play wing? Meaning he'll play both wing and center at times. Sounds like the likeliest scenario if he's with the Habs this year.

Looking forward to seeing what this kid can do. If he lives up to his potential Montreal has a great corp to build off on for the next 10-15 years with him, Subban and Price.

I would think he will start off as a winger in the top 6 for abit. Most young centers start as wingers.

Everyone center prospect takes their sweet time so it's not problem he comes up from the wing to the center at all for the habs.

He will for sure. Montreal would play him in protected minutes on the wing like Boston did with Seguin.

It really depends on how the team will fare this year and maybe next year. Another year after this one in the CHL will be wasting his time and AHL isnt an option. If the habs suck again, he might just get quality ice time in the top 6. If they bounce back, he probably will have sheltered minutes on the 3rd line. As for being center or winger, it's too early too call because so many things happen during a hockey year. Maybe DD will have a knee surgery and miss a whole year, maybe Plek will be traded at the deadline, maybe Eller will be a great top 6 winger. Trying to predict where someone will play in 1 year is pointless in a business that deals with day to day problems.

Long term Galchenyuk will be a Habs center unless we have a chance at a bonafide star, either by draft or trade. Galchenyuk, Plekanec and Eller is a good 1-2-3. Desharnais provides more flexibility.

Isn't Gally the potential bonafide star center? I mean, unless we draft Mackinnon, he will be the #1 center.

If all goes well for Gally, he will be a star, not "might" be a star.

I am sure it's Montreal's plan to have Galchenyuk as the potential #1 center but from watching him night in and night out over the past three seasons (obviously an abbreviated 2nd season) , he certainly looks pretty damn good on the wing right now so it is not the end of the world if he plays the wing...especially if he's suceeding there.

Don't fret Habs fans, either way you have a tremendous first line forward and top-six forward in less than two years, minimum.
