Chelios, Nidermayer, and Shanahan will all probably get in. and then i'd like to see Blake, Joseph, or Kariya take the last spot. Idk how likely that is though.
This is the list of eligible HOF players for 2013. I won't comment on Vachon or Makarov or Larmer because they played most of their career when I don't remember. But from this group, the ones in bold need to get in at some point. Unfortunately with Forsberg/Modano/Recchi and a few others coming up in 2014, some of these guys never will
Dave Andreychuk
Tom Barrasso Rob Blake
Rod Brind'Amour
Guy Carbonneau Chris Chelios Theoren Fleury Phil Housley
Curtis Joseph Paul Kariya
John Leclair
Claude Lemieux Eric Lindros
Alex Mogilny
Markus Naslund
Scott Niedermayer
Owen Nolan
Gary Roberts Jeremy Roenick
Brendan Shanahan
Keith Tkachuk
Mike Vernon
I'm a little iffy on Brind'Amour. However if we're going by career longetivity then him and Andrechyuk getting in I have no problem with. All the guys are deserving and I wouldn't have a problem if any of the non-bolded ones get in except Claude Lemieux or Barrasso (avg regular season goalie). Maybe some of them didn't have a very long peak like Roberts but extremely notable productive careers, hard thing to do in much of the late 90s and early 00s.

Markus Naslund? Come on. Guy should never get in. People went nuts over Sundin getting in and Mats had by far a better career than Naslund did.
I'd be shocked if Housley made it in and Fleury is unlikely due to off-ice issues (even outside of that which he couldn't control) so he'll have to wait a bit.
I think Housley totally deserves to be inducted. If Sundin is in the HHOF, then Housley should also. Both have been dominant players for their team through all their career (#1 center vs #1 defenseman). Both never made it to the Stanley cup, but enjoyed international success. The main difference between Sundin and Housley, is that Housley played for 9 different teams and is not identified to one particular team. Had he played with the same team for all of his career, then I believe that these accomplishments should make him a lock in the HHOF :
21 years in the NHL
1495 games (16th of all time... all 15 before him are or will be inducted)
1232 points (4th best of all time by a defenseman, best as american defenseman)
97 points in 1992-93!
1 world cup gold medal
1 olympic silver medal
All rookie team
2nd all-star team
A role model on and off the ice.
His defensive play and his lack of Stanley cup are the only arguments against him, but I think his accomplishments should count more.

The above are nice additions to a HOF résumé, but they don't really count for much toward the "does he get in or not" argument.

This looks great if you're just making a paper argument, but it ignores:
- the #1A reason for these numbers is that he played during an area of inflated stats.
- the #1B reason is that he didn't play defense at all.
- and on top of that, his scoring didn't really translate into team success.
So the numbers are nice, but they have some BIG question marks attached and he would need a bit more of a rounded argument to support them....
Quote:
1 world cup gold medal
1 olympic silver medal

... and those items fall well short of what he would need.
Adjust Housley's raw stats back to what they would be in a normal era, and his case is really not any better than a whole lot of guys who aren't going to get in.

If you think Housley should get in then Desjardins and Zubov should get in as well.

Scott Niedermayer being in means Zubov should be in, IMHO. Zubov was the better player than Niedermayer more often than not.
Or to be more direct:
Zubov scored about 80 more points in about 110 fewer games:
771 in 1068 for Zubov
691 in 1179 for Niedermayer
Zubov was more reliably a solid defensive player.
What Zubov wasn't that Niedermayer was? A Canadian kid who has a high-profile image of winning. That alone won him a Norris in 2004; Lidstrom drooped offensively, so the writers decided that someone else must be the best defenseman and Niedermayer was the anointed choice - much like Chara in 2009.
If Dick Duff can get in then any second liner can, afterall he was a third liner...
he was a 2nd liner and that was in the 50s and 60s, so there were only 18 first line forwards and 36 top 6 forwards. im not saying he should be in but dont start making **** up

Chelios, Niedermayer, Burns and Shanahan with Lindros getting a real look.
Everyone either stat compiled or had too short a peak. Although Guy Carbonneau is easily one of the top 3 defensive forwards of all time. Maybe even the best.
You can't take the word "fame" literally when talking about the Hockey Hall of Fame. Especially when considering the all-star game. It's a popularity contest. It has featured players such as Filip Kuba, Mike Komisarek, Tony Hrkac, and almost had Rory Fitzpatrick. Players remove themselves from the all-star game so they can rest for the playoff stretch. It's a marketing gimmick and should not be considered whatsoever when judging a player's case for the Hall.

I have to think there's something we can do to get Sergei Makarov's name the media attention it deserves to build his case for the Hall.
Agreed. There's a big difference between being named as a NHL First Team All-Star and being named to your first NHL All-Star game team.
One of the best American players of all time doesn't seem to get much consideration. Tony Amonte, was 4th in league goals between 96-00 after Leclair/Selanne/Jagr. Produced in the dead puck era, I wouldn't really have a problem if any of that generation of 90s to mid 00s American star fwds got in.
