Anybody would love to have Weiss as their team's #2 center. He can even fill a top line center role adequately on a middling team. He's consistent and has both scoring and passing ability. I imagine Chicago would be drooling over the prospect of Weiss hitting UFA. Washington, Toronto, and Anaheim would also pursue him.
Sharp - Toews - Kane
Stalberg/Saad - Weiss - Hossa
Weiss have said several times that he would retire a Panther and is loyal to the franchise. Why would he leave when the franchise finally is up and coming?
To be honest, I dont see him signing anywhere else. Maybe 1% chance of him leaving.

I could see Terry and the Sabres aggressively pursuing Weiss - Lots of money, lack of credible top-2 centremen (Cody has proven nothing, Ennis has a very small sample size).
He may be a tad small for Buffalo's new Modus Operandi, but definitely plays the needed 2-way style with an offensive flare.
With the CBA negotiations pretty much guaranteeing that any new contracts signed wont be at the same level as the past, Weiss cant expect to get paid at the $5M+ level like he probably wanted before. I think the Panthers should be able to afford him at around $4.5M so it would be hard to see other teams going higher than that IMO.
I have mixed feelings about how "up and coming" the Panthers really are.
Their positioning this year was due more to the generally terrible play by their division (all five teams finished with a neg goal diff), and the unsustainable amount of "bonus points" they got for OTLs last year. Statistically speaking, they had no business being in the playoffs last year, let alone being a third seed conference winner with a -24 goal differential.
They do have some very nice prospects, but I have them pegged as easily my biggest slide team in whatever NHL season happens next
Lol, here we go again. Off topic though. They lost in double OT to the eastern champ. And probably got the best prospect-pool.
And for people comparing Weiss and Parise, I disagree. He is nothing like Parise, and I havent seen many plages where Parise said he would like to retire a Devils. We will see, but I highly doubt he leaves.

The "up and coming" Panthers has nothing to do with making the playoffs last year. It has to do with having the top prospect pool in the league.
Pretty sure it was last years trade deadline, think it was Kypreos that tweeted he'd only waive for Toronto. Credibility is average so i can believe it.
Ah ok, I remember that scenario. Yeah, I just think Weiss was being diplomatic. There were lots of rumors that Tallon was considering trading Weiss along with all the other vets he traded, but according to both of them Tallon never ended up discussing anything with Weiss. There might have just been feelers out there. There were lots of rumors of Weiss to Toronto so I think Weiss was just preparing himself for what might happen.
I don't think Weiss has ever said he was unhappy in Florida or he really wants to be somewhere else, it's just not in his DNA.
I wouldn't be surprised if he does leave town. I doubt he'd get a contract longer than two years here anyways. With all the prospects coming up soon, His role on the team would drastically change, why wouldn't he look into a different franchise and get his payday.
