Not really buying into that just yet. Hard to gauge in those conditions, and it's pretty unlikely we'll play another game in weather like that. Daniels was out, Dre beat us when they did actually throw the ball, and Arian gashed us on the ground...

Bears were handled by the only 2 good teams they have played this year. This team is one and done in the playoffs.

While I guess you can say we were handled by the Packers (was more our putrid OL getting dominated), we certainly held our own last night. Only lost by 7 points and lost the turnover game. If Jay came back in the second half last night we might be singing a different tune today.

The two losses were fine. We need to beat a top team because the Bears are good enough to do it and I believe they will win at least one of the San Francisco or Packer games.

I am thinking the Bears shouldn't give Cutler an extension this offseason

2 concussions with Bears (1 with Broncos) and ? in NCAA

Then you're not far off full on rebuild mode. Urlacher is on his last leg. Pepper, Briggs, and Peanut all into their 30s now... Forte a bit up there in RB age. No backups to step in for any of these guys either...

He is under contract another year

Bears need to see how he does both on field an dhealth wise at this point

If he comes back and leads the Bears to SB ,, Of course he should be signed but at this point the concussion factor needs to be a concern

I cant believe the Broncos tried to dump Cutler for Cassel

Wow he is only QB in league who gives Sanchez a run for worst in NFL

What an absolutely awful INT in OT

He's not Sanchez bad. He's at least had good seasons. Sanchez has always been average or bad.

give Cutty his extension this offseason while you sign a proven LT like Clady Long or Bushrod

signing a good fa lt is a pipedream, it pretty much never happens in the nfl. i also wouldn't extend cutler, butt i know that's not a popular opinion, and I'm not sure they are capable of stating or developing a qb anyway (especially not with tice at oc)

.... and replace him with who? NFL contracts don't hamper you like the NHL if he needs to be cut at a later point.

We could sign or trade for a guy and sign for big money like Matt Flynn, Matt Cassell, or Kevin Kolb...

at the idea that the Bears have any thoughts to not bring Cutler back.

We bring Cutler back, end of story. He isn't perfect but it's too hard to get a good QB. Should a scenario happen where someone like Luck became FA in the future for whatever reason, then sure, cut him and sign that guy. Those chances are few and far between though.

Right. Those scenarios literally never happen, aside from Manning this past year. Teams hold on to their QBs because there really aren't that many good ones.

Even with the Manning situation, he was far from a lock to even perform at a mediocre level... those health reports prior to him signing, and even for quite a while after signing that massive contract, were really grim.

I'm all for signing Cutler to an extension, but I'd be careful not to go beyond like 5 years or so.

I've said it before, but Bears go TE in the 1st round. The TE is too important of a position in the NFL to try to find one in the late rounds or in free agency.

So.... your grand plan to save the Bears is to let Cutler go and bring in one of three guys that have even less of a track record then the guy we're getting rid of?

Can people stop pretending these those three guys are any good? Flynn had a good game or two in Green Bay and then was quickly buried on the depth chart by a practical midget rookie in Seattle after signing there to an almost nothing contact because no one else was really interested. Cassell had one good year in New England and now that he's not under the Belicheat he's done nothing since and is going to get replaced. Kolb is a career backup that hasn't done anything in his new home despite oversigning and would've been the backup again had the person that was replacing him not gotten injured. None of these three are good NFL quarterbacks. They're decent backups at best.

I thought he was being sarcastic... or at least I hope he was.

Eh, while I agree... I look at that as more of a bonus to have on a good team. We have far bigger needs.

We do have bigger needs, but you aren't likely to find a starting LT near the end of the 1st round. You can probably find a guard there, but I think a TE is a much bigger need than a guard. If you look at most of the playoff contenders in the NFL, they have a good to great tight end. The tight end has become the safety valve for NFL offenses and a go to option in the red zone. Rodriguez is clearly a full back only and not a pass catching threat, Spaeth is gone after this year, and Kellen Davis is awful. You can probably get the #1 rated TE between 22-32, where the Bears will be drafting.

For a team that relies on their defense, I'd rather get an Urlacher replacement... he looks really, really old out there.

Then grab a TE or T in the 2nd round.

Consider my post a "just in case" he wasn't being sarcastic.

And considering that I've heard more then my fair of mouth-breathers saying that the Bears should get rid of Cutler irl, can never be too careful.
