Edler just makes so much sense for Ottawa. Edler with Karlsson!

Canucks need Latendresse, but can add a goalie. It's too bad about Cowan. I'd have done Luongo and Edler for Latendresse and Cowan.

Sure you can have the Cowan you are talking about... it's Cowen.

What would we do with Luongo, Anderson and Lehner nest year?

Any interest in Paul Postma as a long term solution? I know some JETS fans won't want to see him moved, but he is stuck behind some very good d-men (with similar skill sets) with the big club and has some competition coming up through the system, behind him.

Kid has loads of talent and he could ease the offensive burden left by Gonchar (in the OP's scenario) and Kuba while learning from Karlsson.

Ideally Stone would be of interest, but I know Sens fans will balk at that. Jets would likely be looking for a RW or even a center.

Other than that, there's the short term pick up in Ron Hainsey, but that was already shot down.

Peter Regin isn't even the best 3rd line center on your team.

That job belongs to Zack Smith who does what a 3rd line center is suppose to do which is be able to take key defensive faceoffs, be one of the top penalty killers and make the lives of the other teams top players difficult by playing a physical game.

Regin is more like a guy who isn't good enough offensively for the 2nd line but not also suited for the 3rd line.

I'd rather O'Brien at center than Regin as well.

The Ottawa Senators defenceman told TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun on ESPN.com on Friday that in his opinion, staying home is a possibility.

At no point in that article does Gonchar say he's not coming back - he's commenting specifically about a player like Ovechkin. Here's the entire article from which TSN seem to have selected only a small portion:

"I still have one more year in Ottawa," the 38-year-old said. "So if it’s going to be this year, I’m definitely coming back. And next year I would like to come back and play if I’m healthy and if there’s interest in the NHL for me.

Jordan leopold for Greening or Smith or a 2nd, somewhere in that range.

he's capable of top 4 mins and is a lock for 20-35 points annually.

I blame TSN for not putting all of Pierres article there. Very misleading.

We don't have a 2nd. I'd love Leopold.

Any chance you would want Volchenkov back? I know it's a long shot. He said he wanted to stay with Ottawa, but obviously there wasn't mutual interest. He has a NTC though. And his cap hit is not exactly ideal.

I personally would take him back.

Ottawa could have 4 shut down D's

When Regin is healthy and on his game he is a top 6 forward in the league, at worst, an excellent third liner. Excellent in both ends of the ice. He is one of our best defensive forwards. The only thing you got right in all of that is his shoulder issues and faceoffs.

Leopold is an interesting option, I say we would definitely be interested.

He could pick up where he left off with Phillips since he's still there. His contract is steep. It wouldn't be as bad without the NTC. I think he would waive to go to Ottawa.

To be honest, Phillips isn't the same as before and the tandem might not be as strong and I don't think Ottawa would make a trade back for Volchenkov unless it's realll cheap.

We would probably be looking to acquire a younger more talented all-around defender.

Not bad though.

I wouldn't trade Greening, or Smith. They are too valuable as future core bottom 6ers, to trade for a 1 year fix in my opinion

I'd be willing to move picks and prospects (outside the big 5) though
