Not to be "that guy," but it depends on what you mean by "great." Top few in the world? Top on any given NHL team? Top for his age?

Without having seen him in an NHL game...

I'd say his shot is great. His release and accuracy are incredible. His nose for loose pucks and general ability to finish from all areas is pretty great. His ability to keep a play alive against odds or from an awkward position is also very remarkable.

I think he can be a guy like Iginla - good player with a great heart. So I think he's gonna be great in one thing at least - spirit.

I think what he is saying is that Iggy has unbelievable talent, but what made(I'd argue he's past his prime) a superstar was his heart and compete level. I see a similar compete level with Tarasenko, perhaps not quite as skilled.

He isn't on Malkin or Crosby level, never was. And I'd say guys like Datsyuk and Kovy have more talent as well. But as to heart Jarome is one of the best.

i'm wondering why there is still no hype he deserved, something like RNH or Tavares hype before their NHL debut.

Because he plays halfway across the world from the overwhelming majority of people on this site and wasn't a lotto pick.

I don't see how he doesn't have hype I see him talked about on this board more then Nate MacKinnon.

Really? This thread was started over a year ago and has 18 pages. MacKinnon is currently on his second thread with 33 pages. He's gotten some hype, but nothing comparable to MacKinnon, and deservedly so. MacKinnon may be the next great superstar, and Tarasenko will probably be a step or two below that.

Not just this thread but I mean brought up in other threads, top 5-10 ranking in prospect polls, always talked about positively. I certainly feel there is a ton of hype on this kid.

If he was this good in his draft year, the hype would be insane, but it's his 3rd post draft season, and his 5th season in the KHL. He still put up great draft year numbers in the KHL, but not like this. Also, he's a winger, people don't seem to get as excited about wingers as they do about centres and dmen. His game is also not THAT flashy, he's highly skilled but plays more of a north-south game. I think he's going to be an excellent player, an all-star in the NHL, but it's not hard to see why that's not as exciting as an 18 year old centre who just went 1st overall. Finally, he plays in Russia, most posters on this board are North American, so we haven't seen him play a tonne.

Nah, because he was drafted by Blues not Totonto or Rangers.

I do agree that the hype for Tarasenko is underwhelming compared to other prospects but not from experts. I've seen MacKenzie refer to Tarasenko as Calder winner many times which is huge hype considering Granlund/Yakupov/Silfverberg coming in next year.

Tarasenko is a brilliant player, he could have an impact on St. Louis like Landeskog did right off the bat. Mature beyond his years.

I have little doubt that if the Blues drafted a North American scoring sensation 1st overall, he'd get as much press as anyone.

Quality talk aside, he's Russian- and until he flashes in the NHL few people will talk about him.

i have read many opinions about him here on hfboards, especially in trade proposals, the common opinion is "Vovan is the best player currently not playing in the NHL". How people can rate him so high if they haven't watched him much?

Don't you download his games from torrent? All SKA games are available on rutracker.org

He has great hands and a great shot, but his drive is the reason why he is a great player.

He has such a wicked release. He only needs a moment of time and space, and he can still put a lot on the shot. A real physical offensive player as well, I bet he will draw a lot of penalties.

This.. I've seen him play live about 25 times. A lot of Euros fizzle in NA but he wont. His shot alone will land him a tonne of goals, crazy accurate shot with a great release. He will score, don't worry.. Great physical physique for a hockey player too, but I cannot stress enough that damn shot of his.
