I was looking at the Griffin stats and found a guy named Chad Billins third in scoring. A PPG d-man in the american league after only 12 games. Smallish and 23 years old. http://theahl.com/stats/player.php?id=4555 Anyone who knows the story behind him? Could he have a future in the big club? Is it possible Billins is the new Brett Lebda?
Hes sextremely impressive on the PP and pick teams apart with his passing. A very nice surprise. Pretty weak in his own end though, could end up like a Raflski lite if he keeps it up
He's been discussed a bunch in the Griffins thread. He's a guy currently making a name for himself. I'm sure the Wings have taken notice, but he'll have to keep it up throughout most of the year if he wants to earn a contract. I saw him in-person on Friday night, and he looked pretty good. Smart with the puck, good passing, and knew when and when not to pinch, and was no slouch defensively either. His size will be a permanent handicap, but I was impressed by a number of smart decisions he made in his own zone (he did get taken advantage of a couple times however). Offensively, he and Smith were the two defensemen who stood out the most in that game.
I'm not sure if he can ever make it full-time and be a significant player, but I think his chances of becoming a journeyman NHLer are pretty good based only on his puckmoving abilities.
