Idiot. Twice the legal limit for super drunk driving. Up to 180 days in jail, one and a half months of no driving and a full year of restricted driving while having a breathalyzer in your vehicle. Isn't there also a minimum of 10 days to be served in jail as well? If convicted of course.
Plus he falsified information and this is not his first alcohol related offense. I never got on him for his drunkeness in college because, well, it's college. But a second alcohol related offense this soon...he better have lots of family money, this isn't going to be cheap.
a car is a potentially lethal weapon. if you get in one to drive when you're over the limit, you're putting your life in danger, as well as everyone else's. when you're miles over the limit, it makes it that much worse. it doesn't matter how old or young he is. its a moronic thing to do.
totally different from his previous indiscretions with alcohol, which were pretty much harmless.
Looks like they have to hire a driver to take him to Detroit if they call him up. He isn't going to have a license for a long time, I would expect he gets a month in prison this off-season. Not a great move for Riley, interesting he played some of his best games right after this. Hope he learns his lesson. I am curious it would seem he handed them a fake ID or something on top of all this when you read the article.
The fact that this took two plus weeks to uncover is kind of amazing. On top of that it has actually been over a week since the court hearing so this has been available for a week to the public.
I didn't drink any alcohol until I was 23. Even now I only have a beer or two if I'm out with friends at a bar.
Don't know why kids feel the need to drink early in their lives to have fun.

I am very confused how so many people wind up driving the wrong way drunk. I get that driving drunk is wrong to begin with, but this aspect of the news where once a week on the local news it seems in Milwaukee someone goes the wrong way on the freeway, it seems to happen everywhere I have ever lived. I don't understand how that happens ever.
Meh. Hope he learns from it. If he does, no problem, move on, keep developing. If he doesn't, well, it's not a desirable trait and he'll always have his detractors, but it doesn't mean he won't be a Wing (just look at some of the guys who have played for Detroit, many of whom were beloved). He's only 20, still some time to "grow up."
What a tool. If it was his first alcohol related arrest it might be understandable. The guy clearly needs help. The Wings are usually good about helping guys get the help they need. Maybe he finally stopped drinking and that's why he's been playing better lately. Much easier to score goals when you're not "super drunk". Maybe that will end up being his nickname...if he actually ends up having a career.

I agree that he needs help. He needs a solid mentor. Or his current mentor(s) needs to do a better job. He's only 20, but he's part of a network that includes older, more experienced guys, and they should be looking out for him. However, his first alcohol-related offense was something that a vast majority of college students do (and especially athletes), it's just that he was unlucky enough to be in the minority that got caught. I can't hold that first one against him at all, and it doesn't play into this second for me. But the second one is indeed bad.

But I have friends that play pro hockey and the stories you would hear about a lot of guys are interesting, many of the great players drink quite a bit more than you think. I am not saying it is right or wrong, I just think a lot of people would be surprised to know some of the stories x-teammates and other pro guys know about them.

It's hardly a secret that alcohol abuse and other substance issues are rampant in pro hockey. Too many coaches, GMs etc. are up to it themselves and there's kind of an old-time "ah what's a few drinks" type attitude going on. Hence why unfortunately I don't think this will have any effect on Sheahan's career nor do I think he will change his ways. I doubt this was the first time he drove drunk and I doubt it was the last.
