Eager never got any ice time last year. Last on the team with 8:32/G.
Clowe had 17:51/G.
Eager is a much better skater than Clowe. Renney didnt have a clue.
Everytime Eager was given the time his back or something went on him. There was a reason he wasn't getting time and it wasn't because Renney was a bad coach, it was because Eager physically couldn't handle it last year.

Even if that is true at all it still makes Renney look like an idiot for dressing a guy regularly to play a role that he was too injured to play.
What about a big fish like Getzlaf for Gagner and a prospect or two.

So we give up Gagner and two prospects for Getz; how do you plan on keeping him with the cap going down; RNH, Yak, Eberle, and Hall will all be 6mil players, Getz will be at least a 6mil player. A team can not pay 30 mil on 5 players especially with the cap going down next year.
How about Peverly from BOS as a 2C. Yes he is not that skilled but he is very good on the draw; won't cost as much as Gagner and has size. I think he would be fine on a line with Hall and Yak
Harti; RNH; Eberle
Hall; Peverly; Yak
That is a nice mixture of size and skill.
What do you guys think what would it take to get him?

Peverly isn't the #2 C we need. Same size as Sammy and same cap hit as well. He's probably a bit better two way player but he is a #3 on a contending team. We need a #2C.

They play identical styles of hockey. Same-sized, skillful play makers that show a good work ethic night in and night out. Peverly plays more sheltered minutes on a stronger team though. Peverley is also seven years older.....Big difference. Sam has a higher ceiling imo.

Peverly does not play more sheltered minutes. He manages to get similar point totals to Gagner while playing a defensive role with defensive players. Gagner was and always has been used in a sheltered minutes offensive role. Peverly can PK, he can play a shutdown role, Like what Horcoff used to be before he wore out.
Peverly being 7 years older is actually not a bad thing. He has learnt a lot of things that have made him a complete player. Something Sammy is not.

it depends on the prospects
lets say its plante and hamilton
Getz signs and we trade horcoff at the end of the season
we shed horcoffs salary and gags and take on Getz's salary.
the new cba may push players entry level salarys lower or cap the second contracts salary so RNH and NAIL wont get 6 mil until the third conract.
we trade horcoff for a D man and use a lower priced player for our 3rd line center.

But like I said Peverly isn't the answer.
Kreijci, Lucic, Horton, Seguin, Bergeron are all solid point producers. Peverley played the most PP minutes per game.... That's ample opportunity considering his line mates. Bergeron generally played agains the top comp. since he was the best defensive center and of course Kelly who is much more suited for a defensive role than Peverley. Being 7 years older is taking a player that has nowhere to go but down. He's achieved his potential on one of the leagues top teams. There is a lot more to be desired and likely achievable with a much younger player in Gagner. Peverley is a playmaker not a defensive shutdown center. You must be mixed up here?
I mentioned this in the other thread, what to you guys think of Brian Boyle? Didn't do much offensively last year, but scored 21 goals the year before, which is impressive for a 3rd liner.
240 hits/year, 51.8% FO last season.
Hall (PFW)-RNH(PLY)-Yakupov(SNP)
Hemsky(PLY)-Boyle(PFW)-Eberle(SNP)
If NHL09 has taught me anything, their attributes will be +3 with those combos

The thing is, we have two very good 3rd line centers already in Horcoff and Belanger. #3C's aren't really what we need to be going after. Especially if the plan is to plug them into the #2 spot.

Maybe I'm wrong but I swear he played a bit of a shutdown role in the playoffs. Either way he is not the droid we are looking for.

I wouldn't mind acquiring Boyle to play on the wing in the bottom six along with PK duty. I'm not sure if he's as effective on the wing as he is at C though. He's the kind of player we desperately need in the bottom 6. Competent on both offense and defense, plays physical, is an imposing presence, he steps up for his teammates, and gives a **** on every shift. He probably wouldn't look too bad in front of the net on the PP either.
