The Canucks and Blues are good trade partners if Vancouver decides to move Edler, as St Louis have good young prospects at every position and depth on the right wing on the big roster. Closer to trade deadline if there is a season, and if the Canucks have not signed Edler (or if they are struggling), it would be a good fit for a blockbuster deal that really helps both teams. St Louis really needs to see which one of Stewart or Tarasenko can make the 2RW spot their own. Right now, there is nothing to discuss. St Louis' top priority has to be finding a #1C as Backes is better suited to the Kesler role or being shifter back to #1RW.
Colorado has two centers that would fit St Louis, and I really think those teams hook up once again.
Interesting basis for a trade. Not enough from Van though.
Idea: Ballard + Hansen for Stewart (maybe slight plus) All of their LD are either too valuable for this deal or useless for Van
Rationale for St Louis: Thinking that Stewart isn't going to return to his previous form on this current team. Ballard can perform if given minutes in the top four, could very well be the best left side d-man on the team. Hansen is an elite third liner, better grit/defense/PK/effort than Stewart which makes him a more natural role player than Stewart.
Rationale for Vancouver: Going for a homerun with Stewart. Could be a great line mate for Kesler or the Sedins if he regains form. Kassian or Lapierre replace Hansen on the 3rd line.
St Loo could use a top 4 left side guy and Canucks could use a RW with size.
Both players have been under-utilized some on their current teams.
Both teams deal from strength to shore up weak areas.
So where's the top 4 left side guy? I thought we were talking about bottom pair/healthy scratch Keith Ballard.

Still no reason for STL to do this. We dont want Ballard or his contract and have no use for Hansen, why would we give up an asset like Stewart for things we dont need?

Hishon and Olver?
The issue here is that Colorado has the same need as St. Louis, which is a top pairing LHD.
I'm not trying to say he has no value. He's a great defenseman. But no team in their right mind would trade the best offensive prospect of the last 15 years (for the Blues obviously) for a rental. You can't take that risk.

Fair enough, but we won't trade him unless it makes us a better team.
Anyways, hopefully this lockout ends soon so we can sign an extension.

The problem here is different sides are using different hypotheticals to assess Edler's value. Edler re-signed to a reasonable contract has high value. Edler as a rental who has made it clear he won't sign in Vancouver has relatively low value. These are the two extremes.
That being said, Tarasenko is killing it right now, and there is zero chance of St. Louis giving him up for Edler.
This is about Ballard for Stewart.I'm quite sure that the Blues are quite happy in keeping Stewart.I mean value wise/better Stewart >> Ballard.
I see the Blues passing quite easily
That CBA with that clause has been signed? Oh, when the 1st game?
Do I need to highlight the word 'likely' for you? It's more probable than not right now that the owners don't give on that issue, at least in my eyes. By some accounts it's considered the most important contractual issue to the owners.
